Best route nowadays may be to start at a program/level lower than the player's ability so that he has the best chance of 1) getting PT and 2) move up to a higher level.
Start at a higher level, you risk sitting on the bench, then transfer lower when the year ends. Then if you do well, you transfer back up to a higher level where PT again will be up in the air. Seems like a waste of 4 years.
Yeah it was just a weird experience because I can objectively rate his ability and confirm it with others who know more.
Yeah he needs to fill out and refine his game but 20 years ago with his skills that was enough to get a look from low to mid majors. He got all the awards and team placements, but when I would ask him who was talking to him he would go crestfallen and say, No one.
And I didn't know why.
He caught on and on proud and happy but recruiting is just so different now.
