I had my first one last fall (1 small benign).
Next time I’m definitely getting a bidet for the occasion, if not sooner.

I got a colonoscopy in January '22 and cancer was found. Stage 3. After 30 days of chemoradiation, surgery was scheduled six weeks later. The surgeon had me do a MRI about 10 days before surgery to determine how much the tumor had shrunk. MRI report came back that tumor was undetectable. He then did a colonoscopy a few days later that confirmed that tumor no longer existed. Surgery canceled. Since then have to get a colonoscopy every six months to check that tumor is not coming back. So I've had five colonosopies in the last two and a half years. Have to get another pretty soon.

FML, but better than having the cancer.

It's a three day procedure really. Day 1 prep, Day 2 colonoscopy, Day 3 regain your dignity.

Here's a tip: When they say nothing by mouth, they mean NOTHING. ZIP. NADA !
I took a sip of water, probably an ounce or less, in the waiting room. When I told the nurse that, she went nuts. Then she brought in the anesthesiologist, and he went nuts. They pushed me back behind two people who were in queue behind me. Cost me over an hour.

That’s a pretty obvious no no. If you’re asleep in bed and regurgitate then choke, your body wakes you up to cough it up. When under anesthesia, your body can’t wake up so you choke to death.

So why do their preop instructions say it is OK to take your morning medications if you're on any with a sip of water, but taking a sip of water in the waiting room is the end of the world?
Also, the extra time there waiting gave me time to think, how much saliva does the average person swallow?

Took my BP medicine with a small sip but it was at 630am but my procedure didn't happen till 9am. Think it's a matter of time for your body to obsorb the water.

You should be encouraged.
Memories.
…of what you ate for breakfast in third grade!

Polyp will be removed. Folks are praying for you. You’ll get this squared away.

I have one scheduled for the 24th. What can I do leading up to it to make sure I am as clean as possible? Foods to avoid, what to eat leading to it?

IMO/E, just follow the direction closely. My wife overdid it (started early, etc) and was extremely miserable (more than normal) before. I followed as directed and was regularly miserable.

My directions were no popcorn or nuts within 7 days, I had 2 handfuls of Poprcorn after a pint of liqour Friday and a granola bar Monday morning, didnt appear to affect my procedure.

No solids at all the day before, clear liquid diet which is Sodas, Water, Coffee, Tea, Boullon cubes, Apple Juice , Jellos, No Red or Purple dyes.

Drink prep as instructed, keep flushable wet wipes nearby, if you use a bidet just use the fan to dry off don't dare wipe.

Not 20, but when asked if I wanted to cover up I’m like what’s the point.

Not sure who asked but avoid lettuce several days before, don’t ask, just trust me. At least more than 3 days. Almost had to postpone mine because of it this morning.

That new prep is not bad at all. I actually liked the cranberry one. Taste like the old Gatorade prime packs. Straight syrup.

Listening to all the other patients problems while waiting to be rolled in. They had some old black lady who said she ate fettuccine before she came because she was hungry. They still did it.

If the endoscopist can’t see all the colon it is a waste of time and money.
