For "special wines" it is usually $150-300

Unless you’ve spent lots of time tasting and evaluating wine, you won’t be able to discern a difference between a $50 bottle and $300

I was privileged to develop my own wine making skills in Saudi Arabi and Kuwait. Bottles of pure grape juice, no preservative, bread yeast and sugar. Took 13 days to make 13% wine, 17 days to make clear wine without preservatives found in most commercially available wine. We drank it before it turned.

Since then 13 dollar box wine is just fine. If I feel a need to be pretentious a glass bottle wine for 12 bucks is the limit

When younger, wife and I went to wine tasting classes. Brewers would bring in their fancy wines, taught us words like clean/fruity/balanced/etc. and sold their wine for $100 - $150 a bottle. Then at a Christmas party at a client I asked what wine wine they were serving (which I thought was excellent), turned out to be a box wine from South America which cost about $15 bucks. I've bought box wine ever since.

Mutha fricking bota box, my dude!

$20 and it’s 4 bottles worth.

$40 ones tastes all the same.

You gotta get quite pricey to really have quality flavor

We attended dinner parties about once every six weeks and wine is often a main focus. Many wines will be in the 20-30 dollar range but on occasion one of us will bring something exceptional. 150 to 300 is not unheard of.

My current daily drinker is Silk and Spice red blend. It runs about $11/bottle. I appreciate more expensive wines and enjoy them. But I enjoy finding cheap good wines more.

Average is probably $20 because my go-to bottle is Bogle Cabernet which is my most frequent buy has zero business being as outstanding as it is for <$10, but my next in line is $60 Turnbull.

Yes- Bogle puts out some quality vino for the price.

Wine margins at restaurants and bars are pretty wild. I get why, but sometimes the markup is hard to swallow at a nice enough place.

At this point I know which restaurants in BR are raping me, and I order accordingly.

I don’t mind Turnbull at my regular wine spot because it’s $70/bottle (compared to just below $60 in stores) and I go often enough to only get charged wholesale price of like $40.

I mind it in other spots that charge $110 or something.

We probably get majorly screwed when we order something we aren’t as familiar with price wise on “splurge” nights, but it is what it is.

If you’re not a wine guy, the inexpensive Honda Accord of reds is Buena Vista Cab. $36 at TW, everyone will love it. No one will think you’re a cheapskate. Pairs with just about everything.

You’re welcome.
