I consider myself to be a lucky person. I have a profession which allows me to see much of the world, its people, and its cultures.

Today, I think I had more “culture” than I could’ve possibly wanted. Upon landing at a domestic airport, I saw a child of possible 10 years, with a bowl cut and purple hair. Some sort of dangly black piercing in only the right earlobe. Pretty sure it was a biological male, but difficult to tell. Looked up at the parent and it was exactly as you’d expect. I felt sad for the child, if I’m being honest. Zero shot at a normal childhood or life.

Fast forward 3h, I’m at the bar. Younger guy having a beer, reading a book is sitting next to me. I’m intrigued and am interested in literature. I asked him what he’s reading. Shows me the cover and starts talking about the “atrocities of Israel” how the “self-immolated author” has a perspective on “colonialism and the atrocities the Jews commit.”

I’m sure my poker face was lacking, because he stopped talking shortly after he started and buried himself back into his book. I didn’t get a word in other than, “oh, that sounds interesting.”

I know this is a CSB sorta thread. Just makes me weep for the future.

No different than any other generational style/fad.

The people that continue to bemoan these freaks are just adding to the attention they so desire.

I'd read that book. I'll read just about anything. Bought 20 copies of the "Turner Diaries" because it was being bandied about as subversive after the OKC Bombing. It is kind of what free speech is about....saying controversial shite and listening to controversial shite. For years I would frequent political message boards to understand the depths of ignorance and hate driving half of the country. I quit that shite, it is BAD for your mental health - but sunlight is the best cleaner there is...people saying and writing stupid shite should be encouraged because it exposes the morons as morons.

We have embraced a new Primitivism. All men of conscience struggle in a world of willful moral idiocy. At this very moment on another thread, a guy is telling me that the Holocaust signifies nothing in particular. It seems that we are winding things down on Western Civilization. That will be painful for guys like us who revere literature and history and the pursuit of truth. We can personally elevate, but we are essentially cultural dissidents in a sea of primitives. I’m making my peace with that.

Why can't it be both? Hamas is evil, and the Jews have committed atrocities to Palestinians as well over the last several decades. I've heard experts on the ground there discuss both sides, and it just sounds like a shitty situation that won't ever get resolved to be honest. Everything on this board has to be so black and white. That book sounds interesting, and I'm sure there's an equally interesting book for the other side of the argument too.

I know this story didn’t actually happen, but how big of a self-absorbed a-hole do you have to be to try and strike up a conversation with a guy reading a book at an airport bar? Read the fricking room.

So because he didn’t have the same world view as you, he’s a problem? Sounds like he was a well-adjusted and believed his truth. You sound like someone who is intolerant of allowing others to believe in what they will.

You might be the problem.
