My daughter and SIL are both flight nurses. Its come in handy at times.
One time I sent them a picture of a deep long cut on my hand and asked them what should I use to clean the cut with before I superglue and electrical tape it. They told me to go to the emergency room.

don’t think going to nursing school was required to make that call

It’s actually illegal for a doctor to treat his kids.

My wife is a nurse and she can get her hands on IV bags and give me IVs whenever I fall ill. Its the best.

Well, it’s a rule of thumb.

I figured they were right I knew I was getting a tetanus shot and maybe an antibiotic. 10 Stitches and a $1500 after insurance paid $4000 I was good as new.

We had a doctor as a neighbor. He had a much higher standard for stitches for a neighborhood kid than for a kid in his office.

There would have to be exposed or broken bone for him to get worked up about something.

“Nah, put a bandaid on it and quit complaining.”

No it isn't. It isn't done for the most part though.

for me, I can't make the best decision for my daughter or family members when they are sick. I let their own doctors do that.

Will I call in meds for them? Sure. But I won't treat them in the long term.

It's amazing how different peoples relationships can be with a PCP if they see them when they're healthy and just call them when they're not.

former next door neighbor used to stitch up his kids if needed, and whatever else they might need, he was plastics guy and had a stunning wife who was a workout nut, he lipoed her(definitely didn't need it,) and hung a set of boobs on her, they looked great, at a party one night a couple of us asked why he did it when she was very attractive as is, his reply was he wanted her to be a walking billboard for his practice, if anyone wanted to see an example of his work, look no further

It's not illegal but is suggested against by the AMA. It is definitely not appropriate to write scripts for controlled substances for themselves and/or family members.

I can only imagine how luxurious it is if you fall ill and have someone that can treat you on the spot. No waiting rooms, forms to fill out, etc.

You think that but if your mom was a nurse you probably wouldn’t know your dad very well

My dad was a country doctor - literally could do it all - deliver babies, take out your gallbladder or appendix, you name it, but my siblings and I used to joke that to get medical attention in our house you had to have an open arterial bleeder and it had to be above the neck.

My older brother loves to tell the story of when he was in college, he called home and told my dad he had the worst belly pain of his life. Dad told him to drive on home, when he got there he had him lie down at the foot of the bed and the next morning they went to he hospital and he took his appendix out.

We poked fun about that with each other, but truth is we never had trouble getting seen quickly when we needed attention, either by my Dad, one of his partners or colleagues if need be.

My wife (no pics, also a physician) and I have treated our kids for minor stuff - more her than me when they were younger as she is a pedi - and of course its always been easy to get them in to see doctors outside either of our specialties when needed which has been nice.
