I grew up learning to play golf at CCC back when it was somewhat decent. I would love for it to make a comeback

There are tons of ways to add on the range but one I liked was taking 2 and making it a par 4 by adding a green on the teebox side of the water then using the current 2 green to make a short par 3.
You could also do the same on 5 and make it a long par 3 putting a green by the Oak tree then making it a challenging short par 4 hitting into what is currently the 5th green.
