SJA is a better school academically, but I've always thought UHigh girls were much more well-adjusted in college.

This was 20+ years ago though, I'm an old fart now

I do think there's a downside to attending an all girls school. Almost like culture shock when many of them get to college.

It’s really not. Plenty of kids, male or female, can’t handle the new found freedom

The girls usually go to a coed school k-8

Yeah, well, it's a National Blue Ribbon School as recently as last year...

That’s fair I just think we have different definitions of what a “top school in the nation” is.

For the record I don’t consider my Alma mater a top school in the nation either.

ETA: Nevermind, saw it on page 2. That is a bargain for SJA education. Houston catholic and private schools in general are double that, and like someone said, when compared to daycare these days, it's on par with that.

What is annual tuition at SJA and Catholic right now? Just curious. I believe the catholic schools here in Houston are a good bit more than the ones in LA/BR.

Well, I might have overstated it as a "top school" in the nation, but it certainly is no slouch for those exceptional honor student types. Now, the average academic student still gets a quality education.

100% not true at all. I've had at least one kid there since 2017

My girls are all VERY conservative, and of course there's some leftist bs students and a teacher or two, that's everywhere, but SJA has never force them anything at all--I'm very in tune with that. It's minimal.

This is flat out wrong. Ask your daughters. I'm sure they are very conservative, but there's no chance they didn't deal with what's being described.

Great for kids who are in the top 0.5% of their class academic-wise. But for kids who are above-average and average, it takes a hard backseat to SJA, Catholic, and Episcopal.

An excerpt from Mr. Tate’s writing: “Over 60 years ago, Carter G. Woodson called for an approach to equity in mathematics education that built on African American tradition and experience. Woodson (1933/1990) argued," And even in the certitude of science or mathematics it has been unfortunate that the approach to the Negro has been borrowed from a'foreign'method"(p. 4). Woodson posited that education built strictly on the thinking, experiences, and desires of Whites was inappropriate for African Americans. What is the effect of this" foreign pedagogy" on African American student achievement in mathematics? Although mathematics scores of African American students have improved in recent tests related to factual knowledge and basic skills, no growth was found on tests that measured more advanced levels of mathematical reasoning (Mullis, Lindquest, & Chambers, 1988).”

Do yourself a favor and peruse some of his other garbage writings. Everything he sees is through a racial lens. This is the type of bullshite that weaves permanent damage into all institutions.

I’d love for someone to give a truly rational argument explaining math’s racist nature.

This fricking dipshit runs LSU.

The race industry is very profitable. This guy will have a fat pension for the rest of his life all because he espouses racial horseshite. Nothing qualifies him to run LSU except that JBE and Co. wanted to insert this type of shite there to imbed leftist dogma into all our youth and further move this state into the blue category.

It's a great academic school (#167 nationally) and you don't have tuition. That being said, it's not a good fit for many kids, but if it is, you get a high quality education with your tax dollars.

I have a JR at BR High. I wouldn't have liked it, but she loves it. She's a totally normal kid and doesn't have green hair, as are all of the other kids in our neighborhood that go there.

I did send my daughter to SJA for Freshman year. She hated it. She has been at U High for the last two years and loves it. I have a friend who also pulled his daughter out. It can be a difficult environment with that many females.

I can confirm.

My daughter was a senior at SJA a few years back. One of her “little sisters” - which are freshmen - wanted to be called “Tommy” instead of her real name because she was transitioning to become a male. My daughter went to the admin with concerns. The admin told her to not make a big deal about it, and to keep her concerns to herself. They bent over backwards to accommodate the 14 year old tranny.

Also, a lot of the teachers would talk down to any kid that espoused conservative viewpoints in class discussions.
