Title says it all. I hate the crowds at Destin, 30A etc. If I am going to pay the $ it now takes to go to FL I am going to some place that is not a mini disney world, some place hopefully slower and quieter.

I have wanted to go to St.Joe for year and we are over due for a beach trip.

One thing I have heard is the beaches there are different from further west.

Any insight or recommendations is greatly appreciated.

Check into their scallop season. Its really fun to swim around and harvest them…get a guided trip on a party barge.

Depends what you’re looking for exactly. If the beach is the focus, you might look at Cape San Blas or St. George Island. The last time I drove through MB, there was still a lot of work repairing Michael damage. That’s been a few years, and should be done by now. But I’ve always thought of MB as a downmarket beach destination. Nothing fancy in terms of places to stay, restaurants, etc. some people have always liked that about it. If it were me, I’d look at CSB or SGI.

Yep. Water and beaches there are not nearly as pretty as Destin, 30A, Panama City, or Pensacola Beach. Not even as pretty as Gulf Shores or Orange Beach. Muddier, greener water and the sand is not the powder white of points west. You can get some views of the beach and water on Google Maps Street View and see for yourself.

it's hard to beat that sand/water, though...is going to 30A after Labor Day an option? Crowds will be smaller and rental homes should be cheaper.

If you are just looking for a peaceful get a way with the family, then Port St. Joe is well worth it. There is a cool little downtown area with shops, resturants etc. St. George is a short drive away and has more of a beach area.

We did this with the family a few summers ago and it was well worth it. Definitely more peaceful and less crowds.

I’ve been to cape San blas about 7 times. You wouldn’t want to stay at Mexico beach or st joe, you just drive 20 minutes into town to eat or go to grocery. The water is best at the point near the state park and on good days is as clear as anywhere else. Only dark after storms but usually more of an emerald green but still can see bottom… we always stayed at sea cliffs or barrier dunes for a week. The best part is that there is no traffic/no crowds, you feel like you have beach to yourself. I could easily live there.

Mexico Beach is known as muddy beach. Stay on the Cape if you can and the further down the cape you are towards the peninsula, the clearer the water is. If you like fishing, St. Joe Bay is fun for that and scalloping. Crystal clear water and a good amount of specks. We go every year.
