Bc beating a sunbelt team 10-7 isn't a decent offense. Look at all the past champions and look exactly where each where at both offensively and defensively

This is spot on!
If the other side of the ball is gonna be a shite show give me what we had this year all over again. At least ya have a chance. But if you can choose to be middle of the pack on the opposite side of the ball, give me an elite defense

Wasn't elite but it had nfl talent at every level.

Having nfl talent everywhere does not mean your defense will be elite

We had 3 DTs drafted and Perkins who will be a high draft pick next year and had the worst defense in the country

How many years has lsu had nfl players everywhere on offense and didn’t have an elite offense?

You need an elite offense in this day and age.

HOWEVER, you need a good defense that can slow down the opposing offense enough to let your offense win the score board.

Having an elite offense and a non-existent defense DOESN'T work. Ask 2023 LSU and Oklahoma under Lincoln Riley. . .

There have been 11 CFP playoffs as of this year. Of those, I think Michigan and maybe the first Georgia (all-time defense but still put up a lot of points) one is/are the only one(s) you can say won mostly off the backs of their defense. The vast majority of those teams won from high-powered or at minimum a healthy balance of good offense and good defense. Gun to my head picking offense or defense, I think it’s just the objectively correct answer that offense matters more in the current CFB landscape.

In the year of our Lord 2024 and beyond, it is ridiculous to argue anything other than Offense.

There simply is no argument anymore.

I will take the 2019 offense every time, every day.

Defense no doubt. I hate to see a team go up and down the field on us. Its old Big 12 football and hate it.

It’s a stupid question! It’s not too much to ask for both!

When Miles had bad offenses (2008, 2009, 2014, 2015, 2016) LSU was a bad football team.

In my opinion, the real truth lies in why that statement is wrong. In none of those seasons was LSU a "bad" football team. They were significantly better than average, in fact, posting 8+ win seasons in what was BY FAR the most competitive division of BY FAR the most competitive conference in the country. What none of them were was elite. And there's the rub. Elite defense gives your team a higher floor; elite offense gives your team a higher ceiling. Both can (with a great deal of luck) produce championships when paired with even above average competence on the other side of the ball. And both can produce really good (10+ win) seasons even without competence on the other side. But an elite defense with an atrocious offense will very rarely put you below 7 or 8 wins; an elite offense with an atrocious defense can easily fall below .500.

So it's kind of a "pick your poison" situation if you're proposing guaranteed excellence on just one side of the ball. Guarantee an elite offense, and you'll more likely see more championship seasons; guarantee an elite defense and you'll more likely see fewer losing seasons.

Offense. The best way to play great defense is to possess the football and keep the other teams offense on the sideline.

Defense.

The other team can’t score when they can’t move the ball. The other team can’t control the clock either.

Defense every time.

I'd rather lose a game 52-49 than not cross the 50 yard line.

Years ago the answer would have been D however You have to ask yourself- If we would have had the 2019 Joey B offense last year would we have one it all?

We have an amazing offense and QB last year but not the 2019 level,

If Elite means 2019 then give me that

Now we are talking NCAA here NFL well that is for another discussion

Por qué no los dos

But if we're considering that other side of the ball is average, I'm going with elite offense. All we needed was an average defense last year and we’re a playoff contender.

2019 defense was nowhere near elite and is arguably the greatest team ever

The 2019 D struggled at times but they were pretty solid at the end of the year. Not elite, but for the time being we're not going to be seeing many, if any, truly elite defenses. Eventually there will be innovations or rule changes that will swing the pendulum back but today's game is offense with defenses trying to hold on and do just enough.
