Had a negotiated exit from a company without a new gig lined up, but part of the negotiation left me with a ton of time to figure it out. I could've gone a couple years, but ended up taking a job a few months later.

Was a great 3 months though

Yeah, got a job where I’m now paid triple what I was previously making in a different industry. Fantastic decision. I just drove for Lyft to make ends meet for a year.

no, but I've quiet quit and checked out while I was job searching. Secured new job with more pay, less BS. Used my remaining PTO then came in and offered a two-weeks notice knowing they would tell me to kick rocks.

Thinking about quitting cold turkey and moving to South Carolina. No job lined up. Darn COBRA insurance is $3k + /month.

Been applying at a number of places but no bites. Being old and out of state doesn’t help my prospects. Might have the Mrs move and get employed first. Then I can get house ready to sell and come down when it does.

Yep. Definitely one of the hardest decisions I had to make as I had a family at home. That said, if there were ever a time in my life to do so that was the time. I ended up with a gap in salaried income for approximately 2 months. Savings covered that gap before the new job kicked in.

I’d laugh this off as a joke normally but with the source, I’m almost inclined to believe it’s true

Sure did. Work life balance was suffering and so was my physical health. Substitute taught for short term income and had a full time job within 90 days of walking away. Best decision I ever made.

Yes, and I've been terminated more than once back in my younger days.

Hopefully sports writing will continue to pay the bills.

Did it last year. Didn't even start looking for another job until I had been 2 months out (note: single with no kids). Had a big PTO cashout so I didnt have to rush. Did all the shite that you usually say you don't have time forr - went to young cousins' baseball games, dance recitals, concerts, visited family, hit the gym and played basketball every day, all kinds of good stuff

100% recommend it if you're escaping from a dogshit work environment that is wearing you down. Hitting that mental reset is a big step

Yes, but it was early in my career before girlfriend, wife, and kids. It was a wise decision. I got another job two weeks later.

I have resigned from several jobs over the years, most of the times I had nothing lined up. Never had a problem finding another, usually before I completed taking a couple of weeks off even.

I moved from Tulsa to the middle of nowhere NWLA w/out having anything but lodging assured and knowing very few people. Within 3months I was creating a new mortgage department for a local credit union as their original mortgage manager.

I got 12 weeks of pay and a kick in the pants. That was a stressful time. Then I got a higher paying job 8 weeks later. I highly recommend getting paid for a month by two employers. God is good to me.

Don’t do it. Much easier to find a job when you have one.

Yes.
Worked for State Farm agent in OK for 1.5 yrs. Was killing it. Setting office records for sales several months.
Transferred to Gulf Shores to work for “top 50” agent (out of roughly 18k in the country).
After 3 weeks, found out this lady was an awful human being and quit.
Worked on the beach for a year saving up money to open my own agency. Just sold it after 7.5 yrs in business.
