Many say to never do this, many people say it’s ok.

You are making a pot of pasta. Do you fill the pot with hot water from the tap to speed it up, or just cold water?

I do not do it, MrsAntiqueTiger does.

you're more likely to have junk in your hot water coming from deterioration of your hot water heater tank.

That being said, I still use hot water when boiling bc I'm impatient

Cold water.

I had a science teacher in high school that said cold water would boil faster, no idea of the science behind this and I never tested it.

Your science teacher was an idiot

Hot water definitely boils faster, that's pretty basic stuff. The rate at which it boils depends on the differential between the liquid temperature and its surrounding temperature.

Anyway, I use the hottest water I can get from the tap all of the time to boil because I don't feel like waiting.

I obviously don't do this for something like rice, however.

Are you drinking the boiled water?

Are you turning it into Pasta Water Ice Cream like Creole Creamery?

I am rarely shocked by a thread getting dumber as it goes along. I often contribute to that phenomenon

Fair.

I do need someone to try the Pasta Water Ice Cream at Creole Creamery and report back though

This is not true. You have 120 deg water and 70 deg water, you add the same amount of heat, which one reaches 212 degs first?

As did I until I grew up and learned about actual science.
