I’m just wondering how this was such a big miss all around. It’s May and we are still trying to figure out the CF position. At this point we can only hope that scouts are still drooling over Kling enough to take him in the top 5 rounds, and thankfully Bingham will be gone.

I agree. I do think that Brown will be fine and his lack of experience led to that. With that said, we are in a spot in the season where the margin for error is very thin. I would have thought he's start Kling on Friday & Saturday against the lefties and given Brown a chance on Sunday against the RHP if Kling struggled in games 1 & 2. With Kling, we know what we have in him. I'd bat him 9th. If he walks or manages a hit, then Larson has someone with speed to knock around the bases.

I would think the Jake Brown experiment is over after he got the starts this weekend at home. Not because he didn’t make that catch but he isn’t ready for SEC pitching. He’s got talent and Jay was probably hoping it would show up and he could take the position similar to Larson.
My guess is he goes back to Kling based on his OBP and moves him to 8 or 9 in the order.

I think it's a symptom of everyone else not hitting the way we hoped. We have 2 starters hitting above .300 in SEC games (Braswell and Larson). For the season, we only have 6 batters above .275 (White, Jones, Milam, Bras, Trav, & Larson). Your lineup should always be able to absorb a defensive player that struggles at the plate (usually a SS, C, or CF). Unfortunately, this lineup has too many holes. Pearson batted cleanup for us this weekend. For the season, he's hitting .243/.242 on the season and in SEC. His OPS isn't even .800 in SEC or in conference. Pearson is in the lineup simply b/c there is no one else to replace him.

None of 'em are knocking the cover off the ball. Kling is definitely the better glove.
At this juncture, CJJ needs to settle on a lineup and stick with it.
Of note:
- I think Brown got our only hit off Cortez
- It was nice to see both Frey and Kling step up and hit it solid off the Aggie closer yesterday.

Whomever suggested sitting Larson's bat is an idiot. I still can't find out who came up with the idea. It seemed to pop out of nowhere in this thread.

I don't think anybody did. I just suggested a move to LF since he looked shaky on a couple of plays in RF yesterday. No big deal if he stays in RF for now.

I think that is the point, he's made some catches that looked routine until you realize how much ground he covered. It would not have been routine and it may have meant he had to make a great catch but he would have had a shot at it.
He really needs to figure out his bat. He started well last season and had that leg injury that limited his play for a bit. When he returned he seemed to have lost his ability to hit. I know it was mostly against non-SEC teams but this season he seems to have even struggled there. If he is coming back (I suspect he is but who knows) he needs to work on his hitting all offseason.

I'm not sure Pearson has the arm Larson has and that is an important part of selecting RF. But that is a casual observation so it could be wrong.

Ethan Frey needs more ABs. The guy was tearing the cover off the ball before his hamstring injury in March.
