Listened to some Arkansas radio this morning and the hosts knew the owner personally and had been in contact with him (he's based out of Oaklawn Park) and essentially said the following:
quote:

[Mystik Dan] isn't really eating a lot right now. He's pretty exhausted. They just say that the Preakness is such a quick turnaround, it's not looking like he's going to be there. You have to look after the welfare of the animal first.

Dang, hate that. Always takes away from the interest a little. But..

ou have to look after the welfare of the animal first.

Don't need any horses getting put down on the track.

Makes me sad that I will never see a horse like Secretariat run in my lifetime

Last time they wheeled him back he ran bad, so this isn’t surprising.

I wish Repole would run Mindframe. I doubt he will, but it would be nice.

The organizers of the Preakness and Belmont have to panic every time they see this

If he's not 100 % after the Derby, why waste him? This and next year's TC races should have an asterisk for the Belmont, since it's going to be run at Saratoga at a 1 1/4 miles. Besides, McPeek doesn't run horses coming g back that soon. Baffert horse will cruise to a easy win. Muth? Won the Arkansas Derby?

I am no expert, but usually eating food helps with exhaustion as calories give energy.

Feed that Dan!

$$$$

He had the cleanest ride in that Cavalry charge.

Why risk getting exposed?

Owners know they got lucky.....Probably putting him out to stud while the iron is hot. Winning the Derby alone is enough to demand the cash these days.

The horse gets coddled and protected by the MSM for not competing

It's only been a few days since the Derby. Has he decided this already?

Seems a bit soon to declare him out. It would be a shame if Mystik Dan can't run in the Preakness.

I would not object if they added another week between the TC races.

He doesn’t have a chance in the Preakness. He was damn lucky to win the derby. Absolutely perfect rail saving ride by the jockey and if that race were one inch longer he was losing.

Great story. And I love the trainer.

Unfortunately Baffert is going to dominate the Preakness.

The posters in this thread appear to be very knowledgeable about these races.

The KD sets a limit of 3 year old horses and there have been a couple of B2B jockey winners but I’m curious if any horses have won it B2B. Anyone know?

bullshite, they know they easily lose the next one. Probably place 5th. Luckiest winner in a long time. The second place horse was hindered the entire stretch. Can't believe 3rd place stood.
