This was from a SW/Sith Archives FB group that came up in my feed today, and I thought it was an interesting deep dive into the Order 66 scene in Revenge of the Sith. (I still get choked up when watching that one, nearly 20 years later).

quote:

One of the most poignant scenes in Star Wars, perhaps in SF cinema overall, is the execution of Order 66 in Episode III Revenge of the Sith. What is most beautiful is that the poignancy is implied. It is moving beyond words from what we know to be true rather than what is told to us.
Consider Yoda's scene.

He's almost 900. Every living Jedi has been trained by Yoda at some point in their lives. Yoda has known all 10,000 of the extant Jedi since they were infants. They are the only family he has and he is one of the few constants in their lives.

Through the Force he feels each of them die. Each of them confused and afraid as the clone troops turn their rifles and fire. Each Jedi knows they have been betrayed, and through the Force we can assume that most of them are feeling this happen to their friends, their family, across the Galaxy.

But Yoda, more than any other Jedi, feels all of them. At once. And he knows, whether or not he could have prevented this; whether he could possibly have seen it coming, he knows in his heart that he should.
Roughly 10,000 of the people he loves most in the Galaxy die at once, and he feels every one go. 900 years of his life and a thousand years of the Jedi are wasted in that moment, and he feels it all go like watching the sun blown out like a candle.

Like 10,000 suns. 10,000 candles. And Yoda, more than any other, feels them go out. Yoda, suddenly almost completely alone in the Force, is left to feel the darkness that remains.

The scene was perfectly scored and they are able to capture this feeling in each of the extra Order 66 POVs we got in the various shows since too. The best would be Ahsoka’s in the last episodes of Clone Wars. But one that many may have missed is Cal’s from the Fallen Order video game.

Fallen Order 66 (long because it’s mixed with gameplay)

I need to suck it up and play Fallen Order. My PS4 has been downright neglected since I got my Switch, years ago.

I am watching Clone Wars for the first time with my 7 year old. He knows Star Wars in pieces and hasn't really put it all together. We've watched Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones is on the list next. He is in love with Anakin and wonders why he doesn't fight Darth Vader to defeat the dark side...yeah, he's going to be in for a shock.

Here's my take on Order 66 from watching Clone Wars this far is I wonder how the Emperor pulled it off. The Clones had a brotherly bond with the Jedi who fought alongside them. They also didn't unquestionably follow orders either, though the were good soldiers, they were not mindless robots. I just don't see every single one of them mindlessly turning on the Jedi because they got a hologram executing order 66. Even though the order was probably imbedded in their minds during their development there still would have been some internal conflict.

Fallen Order has some glaring issues with the map design in the menu, making it very difficult to navigate maps that you constantly have to revisit after unlocking new abilities. That said, it’s worth dealing with those issues to play Fallen Order and the sequel. I don’t have any complaints for anything Star Wars related, just the gameplay issues I mentioned that are addressed in the sequel.

ROTS is going to ruin his day

I would recommend watching ROTS before the last 3 episodes of Clone Wars season 7. The plots run concurrently but the best transition into the movie is after episode 9 of season 7.
You’re in for a treat for the end of clone wars. If you consider the last 4 episodes a movie, it’s tied with Rogue One as the best Star Wars product Disney has released and better than a prequel or two. That’s my opinion at least.

Her conversation with Maul gives me chills every time I go back and watch the clip.

The inhibitor chips did the work they were designed for. To not allow the clones to act normal, and to follow the orders of the emperor when he activated the chip with Order 66. Most think that Order 66 was an order to kill the Jedi, I think it was how the chips were activated, and allowed the programming to force them to kill all jedi and follow the emperor's orders without question.

Thanks for the tip. I'll hold those last 3 episodes.

Clone Wars is so good. And yeah, he's going to cry when Anakin becomes Vader.

Follow it up with Rebels. Season 1 is a little silly at times, but Tebels develops into quite a bit of the best story telling in Star Wars. Season 2 finale is just jaw dropping good. Your kid needs to learn how and why KJ is one of the greatest jedi the galaxy has seen.

Also, there's the Bindu.
