Hamas spends all their time trying to win the PR war, instead of the actual war.
Israel tries to win the actual war and doesn't seem to give a frick about the PR war.

Worked for North Vietnam.
South Vietnam had issues but ARVN and the US military turned back the Tet offensive as a complete military defeat for the VC and NVA, destroying the VC as a serious fighting force, but the north got a PR victory thanks to Cronkite.

That's because Hamas can't win an actual war with Israel. Best they can do is garner sympathetic help from western nations (which they are, to some degree, doing) to help them achieve whatever their actual goals are against Israel.
From their perspective Israel would just like to rid themselves, once and for all, of the "problem" they consider Palestine to be. They've long wanted that opportunity, and the (presumably) unprovoked attack on Israeli civilians have given them the basis. Almost like their 9/11.
Hamas would be wise to agree to some sort of truce before the area gets completely destroyed. But reason and religious fervor almost never go hand in hand. I guess the one silver lining for Hamas and the Palestinians is that western nations are more sympathetic to their plight than at any point in history. See college campuses today.
45 years ago Iran brazenly stormed the US embassy and took hostages. You couldn't go anywhere in the US without seeing a yellow ribbon and hate for Iran. Today, we see protest on campuses essentially in favor of Hamas. Quite the juxtaposition. They've been able to successfully weaponize the West's virtue signaling proclivity
