My birthdays are usually regular days with cake after dinner with my immediate family. For my 50th I knew we'd be going to the in-laws because my MiL wanted to cook for me. I didn't realize my wife had invited some folks I hadn't seen in several years. The fact that those people made the drive and the effort to be there, well, it felt good. I appreciated it more than I thought I would.

I celebrate every birthday. I'm not throwing huge parties or anything like that. But usually, I will take the day off work, and just have a nice relaxing day. Maybe go out to eat somewhere, or some other fun activity.

I just like to enjoy life, and you are never too old to enjoy life.

My daughter takes me out to dinner for my birthday. Just us… she’s 5. She pays with Her debit card I put money on each week for child support.

I'm glad to have them, but adults making a big deal of their birthday is odd to me.

Not my own. I don't really enjoy being the center of attention.

I'm a simple man

all I want for my birthday is my free waffle from waffle house, then put some serious dents in the headboard.

occasional nice supper is fun too.

I think taking a trip with your spouse for 40 is a good idea. At 50 I would probably bring my kids as well.

Otherwise the ones in between just dinner with the family

I don't really care about my birthday. My kids and wife care about it more than I do. I celebrate theirs, but if we glossed over mine, I wouldn't be hurt.

I'm fine if you don't even acknowledge it.

Happy birthday! Mine is today!

Happy birthday, mine is today as well, 57.

Always go out to dinner and have some cupcakes. Used to have a birthday cake but its just the mrs and I in the house, and neither of us needs all the sugar. Haven't done anything different for a 40, 50 or any other year.

The older you get the less birthdays you will get to celebrate

I typically use birthdays as an excuse to go to dinner with friends on the nearest weekend. It's not like I'm really celebrating myself, I don't expect anything from anyone, I just enjoy hanging out with friends. On my actual birthday, I usually go to dinner with my wife, daughter, parents, and sometimes my brother and his wife. If my friends felt like I was taking away their time, I'm sure they just wouldn't come

If the cake is Doberge, I, ll go for it. But overall I hate cake. I always tell my wife to make me pie. Apple, Pecan, Sweet Potato/Pumpkin....maybe Cherry, blueberry.

Ya, it's an excuse to go out and have a good time. What's the problem with that?

I love to celebrate all my birthdays. And the birthdays of my friends and family.

Every year I’d ask my grandpa “Well how does it feel to be 80-whatever years old?”

His answer every time: “Better than the alternative.”

I celebrated 40 like a boss in the Turks. This year I turn 44 and will be on my honeymoon…in the Turks.

I don't celebrate any of them really. It's just another day for me.

As an adult, I feel awkward and selfish if I asked other people to take time out of their lives just to celebrate and make me feel good. Idk I feel weird about it. The only thing I'll do is go out to eat somewhere with my immediate family. Besides that I won't do much more.

My roommate is the EXACT opposite though, which I think is extremely cringe. No matter what our friends have going on with significant others, their kids, their families, etc., he's got to make sure everyone is available to celebrate him all weekend and do whatever stupid shite he wants to do. That is the highest level of attention whoring. I'm glad I don't do that.
