And what entity do you think is responsible for these policies that have created this environment? Jesus man.

Stupid low interest rates created the high costs in anything you can borrow money on.

Government regulations and green initiatives on industry has driven up the cost of everything.

Deficit spending created the inflationary environment that takes money from taxpayers and wastes it on bullshite.

Do you think you’re the first generation that got taxes taken from you that were given to other classes of citizens and non citizens?

I agree with most of your points but what you and most others in the thread have left out is the mass movement of america into a "401k/IRA funded retirement at the end of the rainbow".

This has undoubtedly had some major benefits (lessened employee exposure to pension failures; given employees more flexibility and an ability to move companies/sectors later in their career, increased workforce competition) but it has notably also lead to offshoring and P/E driven business decision which may not be for three best long term.

What both political sides seem to miss is that meaningful work is inherently good for families (notice I didn't say people...people are not building blocks of society, families are). Having a large amount of stable, low-skill labor available to support the need for meaningful work is essential (i doubt any science is proving that aptitude is increasing in subsequent generations).

Who should do this? No good answer there. Gov would only punt it and make it worse. Yet, I think the average consumer can look back 50 to 75 years and see examples of how policies and decisions made to maximize efficiency/productivity have left us worse off as a society. It's almost as if pursuing the freest and most efficient exchange of things within the market may not be the holiest or noblest pursuit of all. Perhaps common standards for morality must be upheld on both sides of an economic agreement for a free market to truly prove beneficial (see China).
