What’s a staving horse?

A horse that staves, obviously.

TBH I feel for this one. We had a horse growing up. It ended up being the 2nd oldest horse in ascension parish. Now near the end she was gaunt, but well fed, well taken care of, teeth filed, regularly seen by vet. Just...old. Nearly 40 I think. Horses typically live 25-30 years.

Well some of these new people moved in to Prairieville, thought they knew shite. Saw the horse and just assumed it was starving. Called the ASPCA, all that bullshite. They came out and of course found that the horse was in good health, especially for her age.

Found out who reported it. It was the wife of a coach/teacher at dutchtown. My brother (rest his soul) confronted the coach, as a student, and told him to tell his stupid wife to mind her own damn business and stop meddling when she didn't know shite.

Man I miss him.

So, I get the sign and it's probably a similar situation.

I bought a few round bails of hay from either you, your dad, or your grandfather roughly 15 years ago.

None of them were pirates so I assume to be a relative.

But y'all had a sign on a tree as well if I remember right
