Staying at the Excellence Resorts in Playa Mujeres with my girlfriend.
Arrive on the 13th, Leave on the 18th, so 4 full days

I am thinking:

Xcaret one day (not sure which park)
Spa day
Swimming with whale sharks one day - but she's not a super strong swimmer
A day to just lay on the beach

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Personally I’d stay at the place you’re paying for to stay at. That’s just me. I like to chill and partake in the ocean, beverages and food. Don’t underestimate relaxation. That’s why most of these resorts exist.

I’d limit it to one day off the resort at most. EPM is awesome though.

Stay at the resort. Your paying all the money to stay there yet you want to leave the free drinks and meals?

one day at the resort just laying around is enough for me. I gotta get out and get mobile and see the sights. If you can (there should be a rental place right there) rent a car and go to tulum for the day/early evening it will blow your mind. Also, book a cenote tour, equally awesome.

finally, a day trip on the ferry to isla mujares is a day we’ll spent.

Get out and see the Yucatán it’s one of the most amazing places on the planet and the people are beautiful and friendly

Wife and I did this resort a few years ago, but we did 8 days.

Dude, wake up, eat breakfast, go to the pool or beach. Drink all day and soak up the sun. Take time to enjoy the room and that huge arse shower. We spent a day snorkeling and then had a private tour of Isla Mujeres. It was great and a nice break in the middle of the trip.

You’re there with your GF. You’ve got a shower big enough to fit 16 people in with a full bench. You’ve got a tub in the room. There’s a mirror next to the bed. And two channels with full on porn. The only thing you should be worried about is taking full advantage of all of that

Sometimes this board gives recs from the perspective of people who travel frequently and visit places multiple times so it easy to say relax here for a week in one city and don't overdue it. Not always a fan of that type of advice, but.....

You are staying at one of the nicest, and more expensive resorts in the Cancun area for 4 days, I would take advantage of that as much as possible, 2.5 beach/pool/spa days and only 1.5 days/trip off the resort, at most. Do Xcaret another time, never done whale sharks but probably fun, Isla is a fun trip, full or have day and easy to get to from Excellence, and definitely recommend a tour that includes cenotes, and maybe ruins but thats a longer drive.

I think the best way to do an active Cancun trip is affordable airbnb/hotel in /close to Tulum for 3 days doing all the stuff, ruins, parks, off-road, cenotes, local food, then finishing up for 3 relaxing days in a nice AI.

If you are there for only four days, I would not really do much outside of the resort.

You will hear lots of suggestions for visiting Isla Mujeres, but as have also reported is that they wish they had just gone to Isla from the get-go.

Plan another trip for the island and you will be addicted like many of us.

Just booked Isla Mujeres for me and the wife. You can’t beat that water and no seaweed

Enjoy the island before it becomes like Tulum with overcrowding...makes me sad to see the over-commercialization.

Check out Isla Holbox for your next trip. Nomade Hotel.

The main Xcaret is a lot of fun. I did want to try some of the others but the main park is a good time.

I always suggest a day trip to Isla mugeres. Best beach in Mexico and no seaweed. Plus a fun downtown.

Skip Xcaret. It’s a great park, but it’s a good 2+ hours away, and they usually pack you on a bus from a bus park that adds 30-hour.

Take a private boat to isla and rent a golf cart, and explore the island. Way closer and a lot of fun.

Skip Xcaret. Everything else looks good.

Stay on the resort. Get hammered at the swim up bar. Meet other couples. Check out the resort shows at night.

I’m taking folks advice and just planning on staying at the resort all four days.

If we do decide to venture out, it will be to Isla.

Can you tell me more about what to do there?
