2 movies based on massive IPs.

I would not call Oppenheimer a massive IP. And if you're going to count it as being "unoriginal" due to being based on material from another medium (it being based on a book) then Fall Guy surely isn't original. It's based on a television series from the 1980s called The Fall Guy.

I don’t think you meant to reply to me using a quote from an entirely different post and poster, but just in case you did I am more of a fan of Murder Xe Wrote…

And there was just a movie out called Free Guy with Ryan Reynolds.

WTF does that have to do with a cinematic reboot of a Lee Majors TV series?

Oh. Is that what this movie is about? I’m even more convinced nobody gives a frick about this movie.

I also wouldn’t call it the second highest grossing movie of 2023

That would be Super Mario Bros.

I'm old enough to remember when The Fall Guy was on TV.

Which makes me old enough to say "Who the frick thought it was a good idea to make a movie based on it?"

It wasn't that big of a deal when it was on TV. Pretty forgettable.

I loved watching Fall Guy as a kid.

I took my wife to see this movie last night. I had not seen any trailers. I went in with only this feeling of nostalgia.

I thought this movie had a good script. It was funny. Ryan Gosling is a good actor. Emily Blunt had a hilarious Karaoke scene where she sang “against all odds” by Phil Collins.

The ending had a cameo with Lee Majors.

This movie has a flair to it and reminded me of Tropic Thunder.

Wait until Barbie 2 gets made. This place will lose its collective mind.

Hopefully word of mouth will give the movie some legs.

Let's be honest, if it wasn't for Heather Thomas no one would remember this show. I bet 75% of the people who name drop The Fall Guy in nostalgia conversations couldn't tell you what Lee Majors' character name was.

What’s going on here?

Lee Majors would have made a great guest. Heather Thomas obviously. But Judith Chapman does appear in four early episodes of the Fall Guy. Don’t remember them.

She also has several strong roles on Murder, She Wrote (please try to use the comma next time, MSW is also acceptable). My favorite is probably Dr. Jayne Honig (Bottom Line Is Murder, S3/E15).

This is me to, I used to watch it occasionally and it was alright but nothing to merit a reboot to a movie 40 years later. I'm surprised they did this really

1) it's not summer movie season yet

2) comparing its open to GoTG3 is retarded

Agree. Looks like a fun date movie. Too bad Gen Z don't date. Surprised Gosling and Blunt didn't provide enough enthusiasm.

Comparing a movie based on an 80s Lee Majors TV show to Guardians of the Galaxy is a stretch. Barbie aside I am also not sure Gosling is a consistent big box office draw.

How does it compare to the A Team movie or recent Charlie’s Angels?

i would say it compares favorably to A-Team and the (not as recent, but the 00s) Charlie's Angels pretty well.

similar plot/characters and enough member berries, but funnied it up a good bit from the source materials.

The A-Team was honestly what i thought of it best comparing to. not award winning but fun and rewatchable.

to whoever said "Gosling isn't a box office draw" his last movie to not make $100mm was The Nice Guys and that's his best in the same stretch to be honest.

Avenger's End Game came out April 26 and you'd be a fool to not argue that was a summer blockbuster

Also making 130 million dollar rom com is not the kind of “original ideas” that most were clamoring for more space in the theater to have.

Nor is "The Fall Guy" even remotely an "original idea."
