i love my 1plus8t. i know its long in the tooth now, but its still fast and getting every android update. my phone is like an appliance these days; i don't necessarily need it to be glamours, just need it to charge quickly, last a long time and open apps without significant delays.

i didn't know oppo owned 1plus; is that an american company? same people who made the legendary progressive scan dvd players back in the day?

and yes, this ancient (gotta be what..8 years old now?) 1plus 8t has fantastic 5G capabilities and my daughter is still on an iphone 6 and my wife on an Xr and their data is sloooooow on TMOBILE.

i bought them both 14s so we'll see if that makes a signficant change. my daughter (23) is probably going to cry..she's been making do with that trashed iphone 6 FOREVER.

tl;dr apple phones have lagged behind at least with the modems and features that android phones seem to get to the market much faster but it would be easier to break into fort knox than get my wife or daugther to give up their iphoens

I'm in the same boat as you. I've been a OnePlus user for a while now and I'm on currently on the 8T as well. It's a solid phone with good hardware. Samsung and Apple phones are either nerfed via software or they suffer from hardware degradation over time. My OnePlus seems to keep chugging along after almost four years and still feels as fast as it was at launch.

Unfortunately my biggest gripe is OPPO buying OnePlus and taking over the OS development. The OS isn't as robust as it once was. They're also an ethically questionable company. Last year, many people (myself included) saw their 8T's randomly update despite having "automatic updates" turned off. We didn't even get a warning! We were all forced into OPPO developed software with no way of going back.

After my 8T bites the dust, I'm moving away from OnePlus and likely buying a "Nothing" phone.
