One of my favorite croots from his class. A high motor. Kind of a tweener between DT and DE. If Bo sees him at DT, then I'll trust him. He will have plus speed for a DT. Unselfish and coachable to make this move. Really hoping he pans out.

Why do you say this? Harris and Chestnut didn’t play for the majority of the season.

Exactly. We spent all camp developing them with the 1s and working the scheme around them and then they bailed. At particularly inopportune moments mind you. Chestnut week of ole miss and Harris two weeks before bama

Legitimately thought we had like two total DT’s on the team based on the recruiting board freak outs the past couple of weeks.

I’ve been arguing this with people for weeks. “We need bodies!! Take anyone!!” That’s just not true. We have the bodies, the depth. What we don’t have is the quality. We have the quantity.

That’s a weak argument to say we would have been “far better” without them. They were playing because they were better than the guys behind them. It’s not the the coaches aren’t trying to develop the 2nd team guys as well.

They were playing because they were individually more talented and more experienced.

Individual talent doesn’t always translate particularly in a zone scheme and it clearly didn’t.

You are kidding yourself if you think Ashton stamps got the same amount of focus in practice week 1 with chestnut and Harris there as he did after they left.

They took away EXTREMELY valuable developmental time from players we had to depend on down the stretch AND bailed after being big parts of 2 of our 3 losses.

I don’t see how it is even arguable that we wouldn’t have been better off without taking them.

So like a 70-80ish defense? LSU would go 8-4 with that.

10-2 with a defense ranked 60

Ahmad Breaux

If he can put on another 10-15 before the season (which will be hard during summer/fall camp) then he can be a true force. He's Davon Godchaux-esque.

Not saying any of the guys on the roster are Glenn Dorsey but they also haven’t had a real DL coach. Hopefully some coaching can elevate their game also.

Well they have the reigning national champions and had the most wins in bowl season

Who also had a Stone Age offense. 7-6 Wisconsin was not Michigan, either. That’s not relevant. Look at the schedule and tell my why their defensive ranking is impressive after facing Iowa, Rutgers, Northwestern and Nebraska…

Our CB situation would have been far better last season if we had stayed put and not taken Duce chestnutt and Denver Harris and instead worked on developing our young guys.

Taking Denver and Duce had nothing to do with developing anyone. The young guys weren’t ready. Throwing them into the fire in year one isn’t a development plan. There is also nothing ironic about it. We don’t have a young group of DT’s. Outside of McKinley, our other underclassman were ranked outside of the top 500 in every publication. Everyone else is upperclassman that have no history of production. As it stands now, Guillory is our most productive player at the position with 2 career TFL.

I’m not sure how anyone sees anything else than this observation. If you don’t believe me, just listen to Pete Jenkins talk about how much of a disaster the depth was last year with 3 draft picks in the room.

Not so sure of that. We will have to see. I think we have been so bad on defense lately that we’ve forgotten the type of defense necessary to compete. LSU was a scrappy 9-3 with a top 35 defense and top 20 offense in 2022. Can they go 10-2 with a top 60 defense and top 10-15 offense in 2024? I’m not sure.

The young guys were thrown into the fire in the middle of SEC play without half a season’s worth of first team reps and focus and film study.

Did you ever play sports?

You don’t think our secondary would have been better off against bama with 8 games together?

It is unquestionably better to sort stuff out against grambling rather than Alabama.

Denver and Duce both MASSIVELY directly contributed to FSU and OM losses and massively directly and indirectly contributed to the chaos in the secondary all season.

That is inarguable.

Their talent NOWHERE justified in hindsight taking them on for what amounted to half a season worth of play.

Maybe barrow and williams end up being the next Dorsey.

Their college careers so far don’t say they will be.

Their behavior and the circus of the portal thus far though makes me believe they will be a lot more like Denver Harris than a Greg brooks or Jayden Daniels.

Impossible to add 17 pounds of good weight in that short amount of time. Hopefully it doesn’t affect his explosion, as he’s dynamite on the line.

Watching his film before he committed his body type and violent play style was similar to Michael Brockers. I was hoping he bulked up and kept his motor lol. One can dream lol that 2011 front was special..

Can you imagine if OU pays Williams $1.5M and he just straight up sucks arse? If that dude doesn't ball out from the get go it is gonna create some serious frustration and tension.

Well we do have only 2 that have taken legit snaps in college. It's a terrible room easily worst in the conference and definitely not title capable on paper. We'll see if it's fake news. We don't really have any other option. Let's remember it when the "they are what we thought they were" statements break out in game 1. Coach himself said we need 2(in addition to Paez)and we got none to this point. Are we supposed to ignore Kelly now? Hard to tell around here which way we're supposed to think week to week.
