I agree but later in his post he sort of clarified he took issue with "pay chasers" aka ppl paying to have chasers take them to the tornado and I tend to agree about that as that would seemingly provide little scientific or reporting value

Oh yeah, that’s been an issue for years now. Spann will post a graphic from NWS Birmingham and people will inevitably comment and ask why Cullman County isn’t included. They’re getting TV from Birmingham and NWS coverage from Huntsville. That’s how the Cullman County EMA wants it, though.

It is weird, though, because they can get TV coverage from Huntsville. The same goes for Blount county. My family down there can watch Huntsville or Birmingham.

Yep, true. My sister used to live near Hanceville years ago and they could get Birmingham and Huntsville channels.

Its not siding with TV chasers, I believe there are better ones. My main point is TV has the most wide reaching coverage. The ratings are off the charts and they do not show commercials.
To reach the masses it comes from TV. If another non TV chaser disrupts them thats less timely info for the public. And its worse at night where TV chasers know the roads and other chasers get lost and clog roads.
I will say, you can get great info on social media. But not to the numbers TV gets.
Its all about reach and TV can reach more and thus save more lives.
Thats all I’m saying

We get quicker and more reliable information about more storms across a wider area with the chasing community as it is now.
To the point of reaching a larger market: I don't even know how much longer that will be true.

Agree, anyone taking some time can find better info. But the masses use TV so thats only reason I say they need some leeway in chasing. They have helicopters and many chaser teams who are weathermen mostly. Their infrastructure is bigger.
In time that will change but until others get choppers it will be tough to overcome.
