Or they let him play it out without long term commitment. If he does great- give him the extension and if not you get money to chase another free agent. I feel like most smart teams might do this.

Philly has not shown itself to be a smart team outside getting Embiid and Maxey.
Choosing Simmons over Jimmy Butler, flipping Simmons for Harden, having Harden bully his way to the Clip Show, etc.
