That was what a lot of reports were saying back at the trade deadline -- that a Murray deal with ATL wouldn't happen without Herb.

He lives like a block from me so I pass his house every day. And yes all his cars are gone from his driveway today.

How many of the players live in NOLA in the offseason?

In his case, he is from the Carolinas and went to Duke, then he got drafted by the Lakers, so he may live near the Research Triangle or Los Angeles in the offseason.

I would hate to lose Herb, but Murray and Allen are really good and in good contracts.

I do feel Herb continues to get better.

I would bring Naji back if that happened.

I would start

Murray
Hawkins
Murphy
Williamson
Allen

I would bring CJ, Dyson, Naji, and Nance off the bench.

I wish we could keep Jonas on a cheaper deal.

Pels will extend as soon as they can for the max. He will then be eligible to trade at the deadline. Any other move will be desperation.

Windhorst who’s close with Griff has already said he will not get an extension.

Or trade him in the offseason

Any team trading for him will have already vetted it out and know the exact extension he's signing with them, so I don't see the upside for us to give him the extension.

that is a terrible trade for us.

Herb is not going out. It’s as simple as that. You can have Dyson or no trade. I could care less about your #10 pick. I’d rather two future lottery protected firsts than any pick this year.

Jonas goes back home every off season and will likely be playing for his national team in the offseason.

It’s really not a bad trade. It gives us a center that provides rim protection and vertical spacing. It also gives us a point guard that’s willing to shoot 3’s, is clutch and defends.

We get rid of Ingram (who isn’t a true point, doesn’t mesh totally with Zion, and generally refuses to shoot 3’s). Losing Herb hurts, but it’s probably an overall defensive upgrade by adding Murray and Allen. Dyson might get more minutes as well if necessary.

Getting pick 10 instead of 21 is a nice bonus. It’s a terrible draft. Picking 11 spots earlier absolutely helps though. We’d have to get extremely lucky to get a player at 21. At 10, we have a chance to either get one or flip the pick to another team that likes a particular prospect.or it could help us move off of CJ. Think the Steven Adams and 10th pick for Jonas and 17th pick deal structure from a few years ago.

It’s a solid deal. Not every deal is going to be a fleece and even when Griffin did Fleece, he kind of squandered half of the AD haul on various bullshite and bad draft decisions. Getting Allen and Murray takes some of that flexibility/decision making away from Griffin, which is probably a good thing. We get 2 good players instead of 2 good assets that he squanders (IE: garland vs Hayes, Kira vs Maxey, RJ Hampton/Steven Adams shenanigans vs D Bane, Etc).

He also doesn't pack up his entire house every off-season either with a U-Haul truck either.

Yeah you aren’t talking me into a deal where Bi and Herb go out for Allen and Murray and I think it’s a good trade. BI is worth more than Murray, regardless of how much all of you hate him and think he’s worthless, and Herb is worth more than Allen.
They could be trading us a top 5 pick and I wouldn’t care about it. That doesn’t make up the fact that we traded away the two best players for me.
Herb doesn’t go out under any circumstance. They are welcome to have CJ instead.

Even with BI at $50 and Murray at $25-$30? Money is a big part of the equation and probably a big part of why it looks like they aren’t going to try and kick the can down the road again.

Also, Murray has an All star season and was 2nd in MIP voting that year, so close to BI’s award resume too. I’ll admit I haven’t watched Murray enough to be an expert on him, but on paper he seems like he offers production similar to BI’s but is a better fit next to Zion on a much better contract.

I will also say, and I almost posted this in the Ant thread because Ant very clearly had that IT factor visible even as a rookie. You know who else has shown IT as a rookie that’s on the Pels? Jordan Hawkins. You ask where the scoring when the defense clamps down will come from if we trade BI? If Hawkins can get his defense good enough for Willie, I think Hawkins is that guy. He has an absurdly quick release, irrational confidence, and the poise of a champion.

I get the money factor plays a big role, but guys values don’t change dramatically in the span of a 2 months.
Two months ago, when we were the 4 seed and had a top 3 net ranking while everyone was healthy, and ATL was shitting the bed, you can’t tell me BI and Murray had somewhat near value. ATL couldn’t get anything for Murray at the trade deadline.

BI and Trae get hurt and now Murray has similar value to BI based on 20 games played?

And I’m not saying I don’t want to get Murray, B/c I do, but he’s coming here as a PG, and I have to trade my two SGs and keep my horrible defender and “pg” in CJ. That makes no sense and doesn’t make us better.
Murray/Herb backcourt is better than Murray/CJ by a lot. I’m not trading Herb.
I’m not trading Herb.

I don’t care enough about Jarrett Allen to make that trade and lose Herb.

If the trade was simply #10 and Murray for BI, then I’ll do that.

I hear you and I hope they can find a better way. I think Atlanta doesn’t want to take a step back and would want a good starter to take Murray’s place. Maybe you bring in a 4th team and the Pels can find an alternative, like Dyson and pick for Wiggins if Golden State is dumping him as has been speculated.
