Congrats to JJ for putting Josh Pearson at #4 in the batting order tonight. What a clutch double that started it all.

Credit where it's due. I said earlier that Pearson has struggled more than most with RISP. Two weekends in a row he came up huge.

If I recall correctly (was at the game) he completely whiffed on two strikes then stayed alive with a couple fouls. We were hoping he would at least put the ball in play to move the runners, then he tattoos a double to give us the first lead of the game.

when he came to the plate, I thought to myself, "crap, it's Pearson".

Then I thought. If you could choose anyone on the team who would it be?
other than Larson, I did not have a good answer.

It was

Ball
Ball
Strike
Ball
Strike
Foul
Double

A 7 pitch double is an amazing at bat.

The last two weeks the difference has been staying down and going the other way. Prior he was trying to pull sliders/outside fastballs. If he keeps going the other way, LSU will go on a run.

That is an almost perfect AB.

The biggest difference in this team now vs this team in early SEC play is that they have found a solid middle relief guy, clutch hits and cutting down on errors at key outs. Herring has provided the pitching they’ve needed to finish big games and hold leads. You also don’t see stupid errors in the 8th and 9th to watch those small leads disappear. We had our shot at taking the UF series, winning 1-2 against Ark and other games but just couldn’t do it. It looks like we are finding the right pieces finally.

Man I was getting so frustrated.

He saw a center cut 2-0 fastball and whiffed on it.

Then he saw another center cut fastball at 3-1 and whiffed on it.

Two very hittable fastballs in situations where he knew they were coming.

He made it hard on himself but you can’t argue with the result.

Yup. Guy had a nice FB and an off speed he couldn’t throw for strikes. Josh was late on 2 FBs when the pitcher could throw anything. Once he worked it full the pitcher HAD to throw the FB. JP closed the gap a bit and fouled off a FB. And then timed it even better down the line. Great AB
