Wow, I never knew he had it.

The basketball player Adrien Payne had mono around the same time I did. He was a big college star.

I was in my late 20s.

It was horrible for the first 8 or 9 days, and for some reason, the doctor was adamant it wasn’t mono and didn’t want to order a test. I have no idea why he cared, as this is obviously not pill shopping behavior.

I asked my parents’ doctor and he ordered the test though he also didn’t think I had it.

Of course, I tested positive.

But once those first few days were over, I was fine. I just didn’t do any strenuous exercise for a few weeks.

Right before I tested positive, I was in the best shape of my life. And I went for a run and barely did a 3 mile run in 27-28 minutes.

That’s when I knew something was up.

Now, I’m not sure I could put up that time.

Yes. Pretty much the same story as in your first paragraph. Came down with virus like symptoms, fever, chills, body aches, etc.

Doctor would give me the rural family med special....a steroid shot and a z pack. Would feel great for a few days, and then start running fever again. Rinse and repeat. 4th visit within a few weeks I was running another fever. He tested me for mono. I was positive and septic at that point. Fever spiked to 105 in the doctors office. Admitted into hospital immediately, given an ice bath to get my temp down. stayed on an IV antiobiotic drip for over a week. I don't remember what it was, but the doctor said it would kill anything short of cancer and aids.

Went from 185 to 130 pounds in the weeks prior to being diagnosed, had to get tonsils and adenoids removed, the whole nine yards.

I was 21 and in college at the time. Not a fun experience. Took almost 2 years to fully recover.

10/10 do not recommend.

Weird part. 3 positive strep tests, I've not once run a fever.

I had it in my late 20s. It was only correctly diagnosed after I was prescribed amoxicillin for the horrible sore throat that I had. As another poster mentioned earlier, the allergic reaction was crazy. Woke up the next day looking like I had the measles and it lasted for months. Brutal
