You are way up north. I am on the Bountiful benches. Your first couple of winters will be a novelty. After a few winters, cleaning the driveway before and after work will just piss you off.
It is beautiful here though. Let me know if you if you are looking to fly fish, do some canyon riding or anything like that in the upcoming months. I can point you in the right direction. Also, the really good places to eat here are kinda hard to find.

47 minutes to SLC airport so not too bad.
Fly fishing spots would be awesome. Not what what canyon riding is.
A couple of good restaurants would be great too. Can’t find a decent Mexican place to save my life.
And don’t get me started on wings. Good wings don’t exist here. These people have no taste buds. Everything is so bland.
We like it so far. I will be getting a snowblower though.

I lived in California for a time. The state has unparalleled scenic beauty. Weather is great in some places, but not all. Best weather areas are most expensive. People tend to be very physically active, so if you have an activity you enjoy you likely can find lots of people to do it with. When I lived there, having moved from the deep South, I noticed an openness to new experience much greater than where I had come from. This psychological trait actually predicts pretty accurately a liberal political orientation. So the leftist politics are predictable based upon the temperament of the people who find their way there. I also noticed Californians tended to know a whole lot less about other parts of the country than most people from other states. They seemed to feel that California was the cultural center of the World, and to a degree they have a point. As I have been back a few times since i left, I have noticed a marked degradation ot the infrastructure. Its not as nice a place as it once was, and is declining rapidly. To a Southerner, the contempt for, and lack of religion exhibited by a large number of Californians was also a bit of a shock

To this day my favorite vacation ever was almost 30 years ago. I had been working heavy overtime pipelining in CO for over a year and when I was finally cut loose I got in touch with this girl I knew who was dancing in Dallas and flew her to San Diego where I rented a convertible and we spent 2-1/2 weeks driving up Cal1(PCH) with no particular itinerary other than we both had friends in the Bay area. fricking spectacular. I've tried to get my wife to take the same trip but of course she won't because I've already done it with another girl.
(The car was supposed to be a Porsche but when I got there they had a Mustang for me. That was a little disappointing but still a great trip. )

Runoff is just beginning, but last 1/2 of June, be on the Duchesne River in Hanna UT for the green drake hatch. Of course if you want to fish late spring caddis and PMD hatches, the Weber river just downstream of Rockport reservoir is really good. Stay away from the Provo river. Fishing is really good, but you pretty much jave to fight tourists for water.

Mexican food here is not TexMex. It is more Mexico City style. For really good Mole go to Blue Iguana. Casa De Tamale for Birra is awsome. If you want seafood, go on vacation somewhere else. Downtown SLC has the best steakhouses in the state. For BBQ, SmokenBones is the best brisket while R&R is the best ribs. For wings, I am sorry but the best is way down south in Daybreak at The Break.

I've been all over including Cali going back to 1981. Yes, like many places, it's naturally beautiful. The problem is who's running it, same in all blue states these days. I lived the better part of four decades in Hawaii and tolerated some things I wasn't crazy about, but since 2020 it's been different. Blue states showed their true authoritarian colors. F 'em all, we left Hawaii in the fall of '21 and I'm never going back to live. At this point in my life I value the freedoms in red states more than any beautiful landscape.

Compared to most other places in the United States I’ve been to. The weather is incredible. You’ve got the mountains and the beaches parked right next to each other. The food is extraordinary and the people I met were super laid back and awesome. Lots of talent down here. Hell even the trivia night guy at the local pub was the best trivia experience we’ve had.
Plus, if you have the opportunity, drive down the PCH to Geoffrey’s at Malibu and on up to Ojai. Exceptional drive, even better beer! Topa Topa!

California has turned into an environment where you are either wealthy enough to afford the insanity or so poor you really can’t afford to pick-up and leave it.
A strong middle class was the backbone to our country for a long time.
California along with other “progressive” states or cities are doing their level-best to eliminate the middle class altogether.
You’ll either be one who possesses the means to bubble yourself away from the day to day consequences of regular life out there or you’ll be scraping by and dependent on what government will help provide for you.

Yeah ok, but the state itself is beautiful and full of wonderful people. Look at it from outside the narrow mindset of downtown LA or downtown San Fran. It’s quite a massive state! Lots of different viewpoints and lots of changing scenery. Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley was beautiful as well!
