Sympathy for fat people… difficult

Dear Facebook…
Was pumping gas this morning, ($3.49/gallon) and watched a huge lady get out of her truck. It took her a minute to wiggle out, and she could barely lift a leg to walk, so it was more of an uncomfortable shuffle.
I wondered if she had a disability. I felt sad for her.
I went inside, and was behind her in line. Both arms were full. She had purchased two egg rolls, two other roller items, energy drinks, at least 2 Cokes and a bag of chips. I don’t know what all she had, but it was $24.72 in snacks.
Beyond the health aspect, how can people afford to live like that?

I believe sometimes that people like this lady have just given up hope. They didn't get that gigantic overnight, but they're too far gone to try to fix it. It's a mental thing. I feel for them, but on the other hand, i don't.

At the end of the day, obesity is a mental health issue. Some people can’t function unless their house is insanely clean and orderly. Some people can’t function unless they have some alcohol in their system. Some people loathe themselves so much that they willingly take the hit of junk-food dopamine to their own demise. Some fatties probably do it out of spite because they know it disgusts you and others that they disdain.
They get a little sympathy from me because it’s hard to imagine wearing my mental weaknesses as a huge, shameful fat suit for all to see.

I saw a fat lady doing the same for a similar amount. She complained to the cashier that she could barely afford her lunches anymore. All she had was snacks, not even really a lunch.

Empathy is what’s needed here. While her situation is likely self induced, it’s no reason to not feel empathy. Her parents and grandparents are probably fat, she was probably raised without knowledge of healthy eating habits, maybe she has a bad hip or knee at this point preventing excercise, could be mental problems.

I don't possess one ounce of sympathy for fat people and I am repulsed by their lack of self respect and laziness. When I was younger, seeing a fat person was very rare and those that were fat were mostly fat shamed and did something about it. There were the instances where someone had a chemical imbalance, but those were rare too. Parents back then paid attention to what there children ate and changed their diet at the slightest hint of the child gaining weight. It's infuriating what is happening today and the USA is the fattest country in the world. And, I'm only 51 so it's not like this was 100 years ago.
