this youtube news video provides more information.
Cop had his lights on and was going slowly.
ATV's & motorcycles prohibited from being on the path.
People watch 1 video and jump to conclusions.

ATV 100% in the wrong.

I don't think anybody is arguing the ATV is in the right in terms of legality. He isn't supposed to be on the road. This is more of a who's in the wrong with how it was handled kind of thing.

And you, sir, are an idiot much like Splat the atv driver. Don’t want stupid prizes? Don’t play stupid games. Cop pulled into the lane to dissuade Splat from continuing his illegal activity.

frick off, a cop doesn’t get to wreck someone just because he’s a cop. Cop pulled in front of the ATV guy because he’s an authoritarian prick who knows he won’t get into trouble for trying to kill someone.

A classic example of two wrongs don't make a right. And a cop is the second "wrong" of the "two wrongs" in the "two wrongs don't make a right" in the equation. Bad look for the cop. The cop's not one of the good ones, and that was a bad move.

What right does a cop have to cause someone to be mamed for a merely ticketable offense? None. Uhhhh eeerrrr he could've killed somebody! So try to kill him instead? No. Never.

Cop in the wrong x 1000%

My question is if the ATV rider was driving a vehicle at that rate of speed, would the officer have handled the situation the same way?

In this situation, with folks walking and biking in the same lane, I'll have to side with he cop.

Are you seriously asking who’s in the wrong when someone breaking the law and endangering the public gets hurt by LEO?

Or maybe he saved one of those pedestrians’ lives.

Personal responsibility has to come into play here. That is a closed road for bicycles and pedestrian traffic only. The guy was there illegally and had to know it. If he couldn't stop in time given 80 or so yards to avoid hitting the cop car, there's a very good chance he'd have sent a baby carriage hurling over the rail into the ravine below.

I'm sure some will cheer if the cop faces penalties for this, but none of this would have happened if the idiot had gone to an ATV park or someplace else where he can only hurt himself.

ATV is in the wrong. He wasn’t even riding on the road, it was a path only open to bicycles and pedestrians. And he was flying down the path and would have been a danger to all the cyclists that the cop had just passed. Classic case of FAFO

He shouldn't have blocked him, maybe hit his lights to let him know to slow down, then turn and go get him. Looked like the kid was flying.

There it is folks.

The Karen argument of all Karen arguments.

If it saves just one life.

Nobody can say if the 4 wheeler dude would have ever killed or injured any of the bikers. And therefore can't use the "what if" argument to justify the cop nearly killing that guy. And vehicles aren't even allowed on the path.

Careful OT, agreeing with the cop's actions sets precedent that it's OK for cops to try to kill anyone (use deadly force) for a ticketable offense.

You pull up to make a right turn at a long line red light in shite hole BR traffic. You "make your own lane" on the right shoulder to get to the right turn you want to make because its clear (and there is/was a cyclist or pedestrian within 500 yards of you). Out of nowhere, WHAM!!! BRPD patrol unit pulls in front of you, destroying your vehicle and injuring you.

No recourse for you. Cop's not even paying for your vehicle damage because you could've killed someone while illegally (and possibly lethally) operating your motor vehicle.

See, I'm usually a cop-basher, but I have the officer's back on this one. FAFO, as the kids say these days.

If he couldn't turn or stop in time for the cop car, no way he would have been able to avoid the family that was 5 seconds behind the cop.

Darwin approved.

It looks like one of the bicyclists was down on the road and that the cop was protecting them from being run over by the ATV idiot.

The cop should be awarded for doing his job.

On another note, there was absolutely no litter along that route. We knew it couldn't be in LA.

His lights were on the whole time. Dude probably saw him and knew he was going to be in trouble so he decided to run.

Cop did the right thing. Dude could have chosen another trail or just stopped and taken his ticket.
