I would not recommend this. Get a separate policy. Otherwise, it goes as a claim on your homeowner's and screws up your ability to get insurance later. My wife lost her engagement ring. We filed a claim. We found it in the washing machine a month later. Canceled the claim. Still went on our policy as a claim.
Use Jeweler's Mutual or something like that.

Thanks for all the responses. I am not looking to ever sell this piece, but appreciate the insight into the appraisal process.
