Fifteen-time major champion Tiger Woods has accepted a special exemption to play in next month's U.S. Open at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club in North Carolina, the United States Golf Association announced Thursday.

Woods, a three-time U.S. Open winner, last captured the event in 2008. While he has lifetime exemptions into the Masters and PGA Championship and can play in The Open until he's 60 as a former winner of those tournaments, Woods' exemption into the U.S. Open ran out in 2023.

It's the first time Woods hasn't qualified for a major championship since the 1996 PGA Championship, when he was still an amateur.

The 124th U.S. Open will be played on Pinehurst's Course No. 2 on June 13-16.

and he'll use that "extra special" exemption to withdraw right before he misses the cut, like he tends to do when he's not doing well....

Can't wait to watch every single move he makes as he limps his way into last place and a 78 on Sunday.

He would have been better off playing in an event like the Zurich Classic in a team format
He needs to skip majors and play some of the lesser events that he might actually have a slim hope of winning while continuing to promote the PGA

I don't know how the PGA rules work, but does this imply that his "Special Exemption" that allows him to play bounces someone who has earned the right to play by actually playing and finishing rounds????

If so, that's a pretty shitty thing to do, and if he has any integrity, he should decline.

Should have played the Zurich with Charlie, if that’s even allowed.

Another year of him stealing a spot from someone who deserves it. It's not a lifetime achievement award. Anyone who has watched him play the last few years knows he's never going to seriously compete in a 4 round tournament again.

Maybe all the golf bro websites- Barstool etc will tone down the hype after Tiger's Masters performance.

The week leading up to the Masters was awful. Every couple of hours another site put out content about Tiger being "back" with quotes from people who saw him play a practice round. "Tiger is hitting the best I've ever seen" "I expect him to be in the mix on Sunday" etc. and then he limps home dead last.

Lotta dumb in this thread

He isn’t taking anyone’s spot, if you earn your way in you are in. You don’t get bumped by an exemption.
