I see a lot of you saying "St George was never part of BR" but I can't find anything explaining this. What exactly do you mean by this statement???

EDIT- I now see yall are splitting hairs between parish/city definition. Got it.

I'm honestly trying to figure out if these people just FEEL like they weren't part of EBR or what exactly?

EBR is a parish.

BR is a city with lines within the parish.

St. George is in EBR but outside of the BR city limits.

St. George was never a part of BR

City limits exist.

Things inside city limits are within the city of Baton Rouge. Things outside of the city limits are in unincorporated area.

St. George was never inside the city limits. It has always been unincorporated area until last week when the Louisiana Supreme Court finally allowed the residents of the unincorporated area to incorporate into the city of St. George.

Just like we are NOT a part of Mississippi but we are in the same country and each fall under the same federal laws because of that.

St George was an unincorporated portion of EBR Parish that was never annexed into the city of Baton Rouge. In the same parish, not actually a part of that municipality, however.

It’s an unincorporated area. It’s part of EBR Parish, but not part of the City of Baton Rouge. It never was. St. George isn’t breaking away from anything.

It's like if you have a kid and adopt another one. The govt. pays you money each month for that kid's needs and you take that money and use it on your real kid. After many years that adopted kid decides to get his own job and take care of himself.

their tax dollars were being spent on BRPD..... BRPD did not patrol outside BR city limits. The St George Area is outside the city limits. You starting to see now?

The problem is the idiotic consoidated form of government which has the governing authority of the city of BR the same as the governing authority of the parish of East Baton Rouge, while still maintaining in many cases (such as police and fire) seperate city and parish departments.

It causes everything you think you know about civics, to be thrown out the window.

The people that started it said that on the application you had to put a name. So they chose the fire district and this can be changed when they actually incorporate. I would have a name submittal contest. We get the best names from those.

That makes me feel a little bit better. Surely we can come up with something better than St. George.

How is that splitting hairs?

St. George was a bunch of unincorporated land that has never been a part of the city.
