If Baton Rouge was smart, when they floated consolidation they should have covered the entire parish, like Orleans.
That way the issue could have never come up, now it is too late to put the genie back in the bottle, and it may be time to dissolve the office of Mayor-President and have two separate offices and councils.
While consolidated government can work in some areas, but jn some places, it is just a vehicle to rob the tax base of the unincorporated areas to fund the floundering city government. Then you have elected officials who do not live in the Urban service district make decisions on the city. Or in Baton Rouge’s case you could have a Mayor President who didn’t even live in the city they represent because they live in an unincorporated part of the parish.
