In regards to the school district, what stops a Bernhard or someone like him from building a privately owned school system and leasing it back to St George to keep it out the courts?

Good luck with that argument.

No city services were provided because there was no city to provide any. The parish did provide some services.

Possibly, but maybe not.

To fight it in court is going to require that the books be opened and a thorough accounting of the spending take place. I agree w/ some others, I think the funding of the BRPD/FD and their respective pensions with tax dollars that were legally St George's is not the only troubling things that will be found when the books are opened. They will want to prevent that.

think Landry will appoint a mayor and board for the city and then from there move forward

Which will quickly just be new people stealing your money without you getting anything usable out of it.

It’s the Louisiana way.

It'll be 4-3 denial.

Likely within the next 30 days

It has already happened in the eyes of the law.

No, the city-parish is now requesting a "rehearing" by the state supreme court. The SC only rendered its prior decision by a 4-3 vote, so it only takes one court justice to be swayed in their vote and then it could all be over for the City of St. George.

Keep in mind that the citizens voted for this city. Listen, I'm kind of liberal, but if the city-parish keeps trying to fight this, it is pretty much opposing democratic methods and usurping the will of the people.

I only want taxes that went to services I did not receive back. Such as BRPD and BRFD and anything else. It’s pretty fricking simple.

They can’t legally have a city but not legally have a school system

They’re called parish school boards for a reason right?

glad I now at least have some separation from them and the ilk that puts them in office.

Now we need to start working separating the parish president and mayor of Baton Rouge. The mayor of Baton Rouge no longer serves a majority of the parish, thus shouldn't also be the parish president.

Yes, and no.

He did not have standing to contest the validity/conformity of the petition (and election), but did have standing to assert adverse impact.

Tell that to the dozens of homeowners in my parents neighborhood whose homes flooded because Broome canceled regular cleanups of the drain systems in their area, you fricking prick.

Welp they got it right for once.

You can't split from BTR unless you were a part of BTR to begin with
