I’ll keep you in my prayers Jim. Just be the best son you can be and don’t look back with regrets.

I'm not an audiologist but I have slept with one for many years, tinnitus is typically a symptom of hearing loss. And hearing loss does have a correlation with declining cognition. Essentially, get your hearing loss treated.

My mother did not experience any specific hearing loss (thankfully).

Confusion yes, but no hearing issues

My BIL, who has been a close friend for decades, now has been institutionalized with Alzheimer's. He was a brilliant, politically important man, who was admired by many. He was an avid hunter, I presumed his hearing loss over the years, was from gunshot noise.

I am 74 with tinnitus for decades, yet I am still able to work in a technically intense field. I have had a neurologist tell me that hearing loss can be caused by dementia, but he doubts that dementia causes hearing loss.

My mom had hearing loss, and dementia. The hearing loss came before the dementia.

I don't know about tinnitus, but I suspect she did. She would tell me that she was hearing a boat running behind the house she had lived in for 60 years. There was a creek back there that was an inch or two deep, so I think that may have been tinnitus.

Same with my mom. In the nursing home, she would hear people 2 rooms away talking and think they were talking to her.

Also, I think it's the other way around. It would be weird for dementia to cause hearing loss, whereas hearing loss can affect cognition, and as Steve Carrell says, if you don't use it, you lose it.

My mother succumbed to dementia in her 70's and also had hearing problems starting in her 40's.

My dad was diagnosed with Meniere's disease in his early 40s. It's a disease of the inner ear that affects hearing and balance. Got dementia in his mid 70s and passed last year at 78.

My Dad started losing his hearing due to rounds of chemo. His hearing loss progressed slowly over the years. I believe there is a direct correlation with dementia and loss of communication. Both got worse over time as he waned. It was horrible. He knew we were there, but could not express himself. Enjoy and cherish your time together

mom died with dementia, and apparently had great hearing until she died at 84. Dad was deaf as a post and was perfectly lucid until he died at 94 from copd.

Talk about a different day. My mom was up early today. She took her meds, ate her breakfast and lunch. Just this afternoon she sat down and played the piano for the first time in forever. It’s been a good day.
