The vast majority of these people have no sense of purpose or joy in their lives, so they are constantly searching for something else to glom onto so they feel important.
Unfortunately, they are like a junkies always looking for their next high, and that path is destructive.

Yep. These idiots would go protest a menu change at IHOP if that's what their paid organizers told them to do. Anything to may for the weekend's meth binge.
