Could've had Jalen Williams instead of Dyson

JDub was low-key the best player for the Thunder against us. Oh what could have been :(
Posted on 4/30/24 at 11:46 am to yaboidarrell
I can’t get too annoyed about this when JDub was never considered a locked top 10 pick.
Probably unpopular take but I’m more annoyed about us taking Hawkins over guys like Whitmore and Podz. I think Willie would have played these two more than Hawkins in the second half of the season.

Stop. You can do this with someone in every draft. We could have had Giannis instead of Nerlens Noel too. See how that works? There's always going to be someone better drafted later on in the draft, that doesn't mean they were ever on the radar or a regret the team should have.

Hawkins being an oldish college player who can’t get on the floor for us is not good

Williams was a three year college player. DD would still be in college if he followed the same path. Hard to compare the two right now.

Coaching need to develop players also. Not all on the player

In reality when you look at 8 and 12 that doesn't seem like that big of a gap, but when you talk tiers if I remember correctly that draft had a pretty clear top 9. Williams went right around where I had him on my big board, but nobody ever thought he'd break into that group of 9.

I don’t necessarily think it’s a good idea to draft based on your current coach’s philosophy just because the turnover there is so high and you can miss out on really talented players.
I think Hawk was the right pick and has clear 3-level scoring ability in ways the other two don’t. Now it’s on the front office and coaching staff, regardless of their player philosophy, to develop that talent into the most effective player possible for where you want to go.

They picked some French bust Ousman Dieng or something like that before him so they had no idea either.

This the one, i definitely thought we should've taken Whitmore.

Same. I don’t want to shite on Hawkins too hard because I liked what I saw when he was given a solidified role and did better than I expected. I just think long term Podz and Whitmore will be more impactful

Every time we have these threads I immediately look at the compared players age and then realize how stupid some of the people on here are. Every single time.
Let's compare Dyson's stats in 2 years to Jalen now or Dyson's stats in 3 years to Herb now and y'all can just shut the frick up until then.

I mean to be fair; there is no world no matter their age that Dyson will ever be a more valuable or better player than Jalen Williams. Thats just the truth.
Maybe the Herb comparison is a little more fair. But Jalen will always be the better player than Dyson.

We also drafted Dyson purely for his defensive skill with the confidence that his offense will improve.
"Value" is dependent on need/ wants/ availability.
And to be fair there's no fair way to compare players that are several years younger, in different systems, with different coaches, with different skill sets, with different minutes.
These threads are always so fricking stupid.
AND TO BE FAIR
Jalen Williams has played 146 games avg 31 min = 4,526 NBA MINUTES
Dyson has played 120 games avg 20 min = 2,400 NBA MINUTES.
So again, the dumb fricks who continue to make these threads have no clue what their "opinions" or "feelings" represent or have the brain capacity to understand these things.
And this is all without even arguing whether I think Jalen is a better player than Dyson.

Trey and Hawk were both rookies under Willie and Hawk saw more games as a rookie than Trey and played more minutes per game than Trey when Hawkins had more guys to compete against for minutes. I don't know if Hawk will end up a nice piece but I don't think his playing time this year should be held against him.

Everything you stated doesn’t matter if you think Jalen is the better player than Dyson. The OP is not wrong in that. Again Jalen Williams was the better pick and is the better player. Now that doesn’t mean Dyson isn’t a useful player but if there was a redraft Jalen would be definitely drafted not just above Dyson but also other players in that draft.
There is no argument in the world you can make showing that oh Jalen is better because he got more minutes. Jalen is just better than Dyson and thats ok. Hes also better than a lot of guys in that draft.

Jalen is on the #1 team in the West bruh. Jalen could have been riding the bench on our team the last 2 years being "mediocre" when he plays because of our shite rotations and the fact that he doesn't have a flow.
Its real easy to keep comparing Dyson to guys on competent rosters who are starters playing 2/3 times the minutes, and have legit plays drawn up for them.

Jalen wouldn’t ride our bench because hes more talented. Its really easy to dismiss guys that are better than Dyson because they play for a winning organization. Just maybe because of that players talent they are winning.
Look you had a point in maybe comparind Dyson to Herb. There is no world, no matter the team that Jalen Williams isn’t a better player than Dyson Daniels. If you think hes just been lucky to be on the thunder and his talent overall is not better than Dyson’s- thats just absurd statement to make.

quote:major dose of copium. Dyson is just arse offensively and has barely shown and reason why he’ll ever be as good as Jalen today. Jalen has been good from the jump and has always had a bigger bag offensively.
