Secrets Maroma- Is “Preferred” level worth it?

Already have it booked with a standard ocean view but I’m considering upgrading. I think it’s going to be about $1000 more? I understand the preferred rooms will be closer to the ocean and we’ll have exclusive access to a restaurant/bar. We’re not really spa people but do like having service on the beach and higher quality alcohol options. Do you get these on the beach without being preferred? Also, any other benefits or general comments about the resort would be appreciated.
