Why should a team that is a mere shell of last year's automatically qualify for this year's tournament

Then say that. That is actually a valid argument when you look at LSU non conference schedule which includes a neutral site win against the #18 team in the nation. Outside of the SEC and ACC, LSU would probably be leading any other conference right now. There is something to say about their schedule they played.

Okay, this is a better way of framing my frustration.
I know we’ve been so frustrated with this team, but I promise you they’re better than half the non-SEC/ACC teams that will get in.

only thing I would advocate is why penalize sec teams for playing the schedule they have to play every year while giving automatic berths to small conferences as bid stealers

I get where you're coming from, but in what other conference can you finish below .500 and basically be guaranteed to make a regional?

You have to earn it every year. It's actually a pretty simple concept.

Look at LSU non conf record LSU would still mop the floor with 3/4 the field the sec is so competitive now that really good teams are getting shortchanged

I’m glad someone sees that this is what I’m getting at, not “everyone gets a trophy”

Keep rationalizing. If it's not everyone gets a trophy it is pretty close. It is the regular season means very little.

The selection committee already takes conferences into account, which is why more than half the SEC get in and a quarter or more host a regional, often a super. A defending champ, especially in the context of a team that loses a lot of players, should have to earn a chance like everyone else.

Absolutely not. There is no such thing as defending champions.
LSU will always be the 2023 champion, nothing to defend, this is a new year.

No one is “defending” anything. The 2023 trophy stays in Baton Rouge, and the 2023 players aren’t on the team anymore.

Nonsense. Would you feel this way if Florida was the defending champs?

It’s ridiculous that this team is in such danger of missing the tournament due to losing almost everyone and playing in the best conference in baseball.

There’s been improvement, and anyone who has ever watched a game of baseball knows there aren’t 64 better teams.

Defending champs
isn't a thing in sports like baseball. It's a different team.

Not only do I disagree about getting in a regional, I also do not think they should automatically get into the SEC tournament.

Not the same team and in sports you’re supposed to earn your success. Anything other than that isn’t competition.

What’s so crazy about the idea that the team that wins the whole thing should be guaranteed a minimum 4 seed? I think it’s dumber to give auto bids to the winners of pathetic conferences - I promise you this LSU team would have a better chance of winning a regional than any team from the SWAC, Miz Valley etc.

What the frick is this stupid BS?

No. Just no. Who gets to decide which conferences are “pathetic”?

This BS is the same political nonsense that gives favors to Alabama football all the time.
