Go back to SEC winner goes to Sugar Bowl.

Football ends on January 1.

Argue about polls and such.

You still want the higher seed to have the home playoff game no? So it kinda matters

Which is the best that can be said in 2024. People have been bitching and moaning for a playoff for years despite failing to grasp that the regular season was the playoff. Was it perfect? No. But it's almost impossible to find a perfect post-season system when you have 100+ teams vying for a championship at the start of the season.

The simple truth is that this all could have been solved with an optional +1 model at the end of the bowl season.

The rankings are created by the committee, they could essentially just rank the teams in a manner in which they would avoid re-matches

Thats what we'll see. Teams will not be ranked based on resume or eye test, but rather they will be ranked to make matches

can't wait to see UGA and Bama play three times in a season. ?

In a single year, the idiots in charge killed the best regular season in sports and snatched the magic from their own sport.

Bravo overseers... It actually takes talent to destroy something so quickly.

When I read this kind of shite, my answer to it is ... I'm beginning to really care less.

Playoffs in High School Football & Professional Football

I can't speak for every state in the Union, but most high school football playoffs don't include EVERY school in the state. My high school alma mater plays in 6A where there are just 58 teams in competition. Compare that to 134 teams that will compete in the FBS in 2024 and the 32 teams that compete in the NFL.

Brainlet take. College football is different. The talent disparity makes it unique in sports. Pro football is rigged to have parity, and since high school football has seen its talent disparity grow at the highest levels, it has become far less interesting.

Penn State would have made the playoff last year without beating a single team in the same talent stratosphere.

It’d be nice if these elites would just admit the playoff has been a cash grab from the start instead of trying to pretend CFB had a problem before this. But morons actually believed this was about giving the Boise States of the world a chance.

It sounds like they're already scheming ways to screw G5 schools in favor of getting bigger names in.

It still matters and rather than it only mattering to 8 teams by seven weeks in like the BCS years and prior, it now matters to at least 25-30 teams with a 12 team playoff.

The BCS, the further and further we get away from it, just keeps proving that it was a far superior product to this dumb bullshite.

The BCS wasn’t broken.

Allowing the coaches poll to carry as much weight as it did was the only negative

FYI: The FBS is the only level of college football that has yet to institute a true playoff system. NAIA, D3, D2, and FCS all have a playoff.

Good, there should be a G5 playoff and a P4 playoff.

The fact that people don’t understand that the 12 team playoff makes more games matter is pretty wild

They will do their best to avoid rematches until one year, the final four is all SEC teams.

Then they will make same conferences play each other early in playoffs to find the best team in the conference and to avoid an all SEC final four.

Which is what the regular season used to do.

Here’s a novel idea … why don’t we wait to see the thing in action before we pronounce it as the ruination or death of college football?

Flame away, but I think just like with NIL and paying players, the biggest reason fans, and particularly old-school fans, are so arse hurt at this is they haven’t been given a voice in all these changes to something they viewed as special and pretty near perfect, and they feel they should have a voice because they’ve been the most passionate and committed and supportive US sports fans on the planet for so many generations.

Which is just another way of saying the regular season no longer matters. You can try to put make-up on a pig but, at the end of the day, it's still a pig. What you people don't understand is that the regular season was the playoff. Now you can lose two or three games in said season and still have an opportunity to play for a national championship. How does that do anything other than marginalize the regular season and make it less relevant?
