You think it's bad getting them to show up and bid? Wait until whoever you pick screws it up and try getting them back.
This is the worst part. My wife (no pics) painted a few rooms in our house and they we hired a contractor to do a few rooms including the high ceilings. He first told us our last painter (wife) did great work, then proceeded to do a crappy job, we had him back three times and he made a bigger mess, then told us we didn't know what we were doing and DIY'ers should be quiet.
Then he sent us a bill with all kinds of extras included such as "gas money for running around town". I refused to pay it.

A lot of them will go out of business bc more folks will become DIYs.
Thank you all for your responses. Seems to be industry standard. But re smaller jobs, it at least shows you whom not to call for the big jobs. Be honest it’s not worth the while vs “we repair, big or small.” This was about a $1000 job (which included the material as it is only a section of fence) based on estimates who didn’t bother to show to do the work. Good luck to all who are looking. Maybe a drive over to Home Depot on a weekend morning is in order.
