Culture and coaching. The players gave us glimpses of what they were capable of, they just didn’t do it.

IMHO and Personally, I think Maason’s injury and Greg Brooks Jr took a huge psychological toll on the defense. Mix in the coaching style and lack of empathy, you create a little ‘perfect storm’ of non-compliance and mentality of ‘just don’t get injured and let the NFL choose our fate’…

Cmon man. Calling him “Easily the worst defensive lineman in the conference” is absurd.

Well Matt House also drafted 2 of the 3 which is funny in its own right.

Kirby Smart isn't good at coaching defense?

One was drafted on potential.

The others were drafted pretty low.

All said, I hope they all do really well in the NFL...

We didn't have a D-line coach all season.

Our D-line coach left before the season for personal reasons and BK didn't feel it was important to hire another one or was more loyal to his staff than his team. Hell, maybe no one in America would take the DL coaching job at LSU last August before the season started.

BK didn't try to fill the opening and opted to let GA's and analysts on staff help with the defense. BK tried to stop the bleeding in October by bringing in Jenkins as an analyst but it was too little too late.

Do not even have DL bodies on the roster and the portal is closing in a few days. May be as bad this past season.

The portal closes today and all of the primary targets are still uncommitted.

The defense as a whole gave up last season, they couldnt stand MH.
He refused to listen to the players or position coaches when it came to his scheme,He ran what he wanted and didnt take into account the players
abilities.MH was Bo Polini reduxxxx. When you dont play with confidence
or have respect for the gameplan you have half assed effort.

I wouldn't go quite that far. But there is zero question his effort was severely lacking and his technique was even worse. He's a tall DT. So when your first move is to stand up straight you allow weaker/smaller OL to gain leverage and push you around. Combine that with poor effort and you get last season's results.

Perhaps it was residual effects from his injury. Effort wasn't an issue in the very few plays he played in 2022. In fact, being too excited cost him the season. The bottom line is that his overwhelming size/athleticism will quickly be mitigated if his effort and technique don't improve quickly.

They never really got in set stance at many points in games. In the SEC there aren’t really scrubs, if you don’t have low center of gravity and foot on the gas it’s just not going to work.

In my opinion. We had a read and react principal or technique for our front seven. Almost never works in college. Having said that… for years LSU has had trouble getting off blocks and pressuring to QB.

Three DLine coaches did not help.

While LSU is now at parity with the top teams on the offensive line. We are not on defense yet.

Some hope abounds as Baker and Davis have to be able to I,prove last years incredible disappointment

No doubt House did a pathetic job but tell us how many of those 3 got drafted in the first round?? What's the expected longevity of their NFL careers given where they were drafted?

Our D-Line coach didn’t leave. He had a life threatening illness that caused him to miss the entire season.

How do you hire another D-Line coach right before the season starts when you already have one under contract???

It was a very difficult situation for everyone involved, and believe it or not, it was no one’s fault. It was just a really bad break for everyone.

BK did what he could, he promoted an analyst and hired Pete as a consultant. It was just a really unfortunate situation.

This new defensive staff will make a difference. I like Blake Baker and the whole front 7 coaching staff.

Over the last 3 years there have been articles and web posts to the effect that LSU draftees and signers were short on technique. And needed farther skill development to have a shot at making a contribution.
