Draft Pick # / Name

1 Kyler Murray
1 Baker Mayfield
2 Zach Wilson
2 Mitchell Trubisky
2 Carson Wentz
3 Trey Lance
3 Sam Darnold
6 Daniel Jones

If you say false, who do you think was a better prospect than Penix?

These two are definitely better prospects than Penix.

Several of those other ones were clear reaches like Wilson, as they may have been in the top tier of QB prospects but the quality of prospects wasn’t there.

The bigger problem for Atlanta is, simply put, they spent 8th overall on an insurance policy. Same kind of shite people picked on SF for with regards to Lance after blowing picks to trade up for him.

I dont think the falcons defense should be ‘see other teams have made crappy qb selections early in the draft’
Just a totally indefensible pick after signing cousins.

I still think Lance could have been really good, but losing basically his entire 2020, 2021, and 2022 seasons of playing time really set back his development to the point where he never recovered. No prospect got screwed by the 2020 stupidity more than him.

So….. you think Penix is a better prospect than all of them

That’s great

What’s the point of your thread?

I like Penix, but as a draft prospect, he is/was no better than anyone on the list other Trubisky and Jones and maybe Zach Wilson.

Penix is Hendon Hooker. I think Hooker has a better shot at long term NFL success, but I would not have utilized a top 10 pick on either of them.

All of them were better except Daniel Jones. Just ask yourself this question. If you put all of those guys in a draft when they were prospects, how many of them would have been considered reaches with the eighth overall pick?

Murray, Mayfield, Wilson, Trubisky, Wentz, and Darnold were consensus top prospects. Trey Lance was a controversial pick but he was considered to be a high upside guy with immense physical tools much like Drake Maye. Jones is the only guy where picking him at 8 would have garnered a ton of criticism.

As a prospect, I liked all of those guys better than I like Penix

Obviously some of them did not work out, but yeah. Penix is a major injury risk, has poor accuracy, little to no mobility, lacks touch (it's just all rockets with him), and reacts very negatively to pressure. He played behind the best OL in America with two top 50 draft picks at WR.

He might work out, I'm not saying he won't, but as a prospect he is a 2nd round evaluation. All of those other guys you listed were mostly-consensus top 10 picks for a reason.

False

I think he’s better than Wilson, Mitch, Lance, and Jones though.

Even without the massive injury concerns, Murray and Mayfield were better prospects than Penix

Wilson was pretty highly regarded IIRC. I’d say Murray and Baker also more highly regarded at draft time. Can’t really remember on Wentz.

The QB turnover attrition in the NFL is at an all-time high, nobody can find their guy.

Teams will pay a ransom down the road if their guy is not working out, especially if they get Penix on his rookie contract.

Everyone on here thought Penix was the best QB in the draft after he beat Texas.

Then he loses the National Championship game and suddenly he's overrated. The Falcons probably got the best QB in the draft which is a valuable commodity that they can do what they want with.
