Meh, if you feel like you’re one guy away from a title, do it. It’s not like the NFL where you mortgage future cap constraints. If you got the cash and feel like that one guy is the difference, pay him.

See: Cam Newton at Auburn.

If you know you have a future star player in the NFL then it helps with the brand to have another player

Seems the going rate reported is 5-8 hundred grand for "top end" DTs. None of them are worth that on its face but we don't really know the parameters of the market so maybe it's fair. The dilemma is, are any of them worth it? Would you spend 500 grand for an experienced vet who may help you win now or upwards of a mil over time to a hs kid that does nothing but practice and lift weights before transferring because he never sees the field? It's the system we are in now so if we want to compete then we have to "overspend". Otherwise there is no sense in playing or expecting success at the level we strive for.

Two sided coin.

Ole Miss is spending like they know their chance is this year.

If LSU knows it has an offense 80% as effective as last years, and the defense can improve from 112th to around 50th by adding two game changers, that can put us in the playoffs.

And no one knows what happens in the playoffs.

You gotta spend money to make money

You don’t spend the money and teams rag doll your dline all year long and it’s a repeat of last season

I just want to win a 1st game of the season for a change. Hopefully replacing three1st rounders on offense won’t be too big of an issue to overcome.

Kelly should have done something besides wait until the end of the season with our dysfunctional defense, but he didn’t. We hope we now have all the right coaches in place and we have to trust their eval when purchasing a couple of d-linemen for the upcoming season.

Two quality defensive tackles could be the difference in us making the playoffs or not. It's well worth it to spend based on payouts for the playoffs.

Well as a season ticket holder I have to disagree. I don't demand perfection but I do expect you to put out a competitive team for the price I'm paying for tickets taf and parking. If getting this piece makes this team competitive and a legit shot at playoffs, you owe it to the fans to do your best to put the best team possible on the field. The whole it's not your money to spend to get player is right, but it is my money as well as everyone else's in that stadium that allows for you to pay for the people who make those decisions.

Paul Skenes, Don’t know if LSU paid for him but he would be worth it.

I went and looked at the 247 Transfer Portal site. I was pretty surprised that none of the names we've been pursuing rank as high as a score of 90. There were so many DL's approaching 300 lbs. in the Portal ranked much higher who committed long ago.

Throwing a bunch of money at a person scoring as an 87 doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. Johnny Bowens from Oregon might be the exception as a 93, presently. Derrick Harmon is a 0.9100, Damonic Williams is a 0.9100 where CJ West is an 0.8900 and Simeon Barrow is a 0.8700. I trust our coaches to be certain of vetting the proper candidates and am not a star gazer.
