If your mom already lost one child scenario

If your sibling died unexpectedly, and you were her only child left and had a chance to save her life from being hit by a truck, but you would die in the process. It’s either her or you. If you save her, you’re a hero and dead. But the pain of losing another child would hurt her more than anything else imaginable and would be a basket case the rest of her life. If you don’t save her, you’re left here alone feeling like shite, but you actually saved her from the hurt by being dead. You can’t save or kill both. One has to live. What would you do?

Why do you want to think about that?

Personally losing a sibling and seeing my mom heartbroken, I’m just curious what the OT would do. That would be a tough decision for me.

My Dad, plus a Brother and Sister all died young. My Mom is still living.
I aint gonna think about this shite.

I'm a man and I love my mother it is my job to protect my family big/ little /old/ young/ male / female.
What she does or dosen't do w/ her life is her choice, I did my job.

I don’t usually encourage counseling, but you may need to look into it.

That’s a damn strong answer.

This subject came up with a friend and we went back and forth. I’m not unstable and this would never happen. I’m just bored on a Friday night and curious.

You wouldn't have very much time to make a decision.....while you are standing there thinking about it, the truck would run her right over

How old is she in this scenario?

The trolley problem is a thought experiment in ethics about a fictional scenario in which an onlooker has the choice to save 5 people in danger of being hit by a trolley, by diverting the trolley to kill just 1 person. The term is often used more loosely with regard to any choice that seemingly has a trade-off between what is good and what sacrifices are "acceptable," if at all.

Your scenario doesn’t even consider that your mom has lived presumably like 60+ years of life already

I know this one ! “The doctor was actually the kid’s MOTHER.”

My mom died a long time ago. However, whether the clock were turned back or she were still alive today, if I had a chance to save her from dying, I would do it, even if I died trying. I couldn't live with myself if I just stood there and watched her get killed when I could have stopped it.

The trolley problem ascribed generic value to demographic characteristics.. If we knew what kind of life the black grandmother had lived, the white 75 year old male, the young mother and her baby in the stroller ( are they leftists?) we could have solve this conundrum.
