That’s not even in the ballpark. They’re ripping you off. The unit costs about $1800 just for the condenser. If you need the coil and furnace you’re looking at about $3,300.

You aren't buying a unit with variable speed and heat pump for that cheap.

I have a national wholesale account with Goodman which is lower tier and you aren't buying an inside and outside unit anymore for $3300. It is around $4300 now before tax and that is no whip, plenum, or anything.

The OP can go your route and get cheap equipment and then pay for it monthly, or he can get get a high-efficiency variable-speed heat pump unit that will cut his energy bill quite a bit. Around $10K installed is the market rate for that.

An A/C installer has about $5500 in the unit and materials (plenum, whip, fittings, pans, etc) and they are paying taxes, labor, insurance, and have a warranty on their work. You act like they are clearing $5K on the job. Take all of that out and it is probably closer to $2K

Plus a lot of manufacturers will not warranty the equipment unless a licensed tech is installing it. None of that is counted in your $1200 Mexican you have slamming units into flips.
