Yep. Doby Gillis was about as squeaky clean WASP as you could get in a show during that time frame.
Bob Denver made a good living playing off-beat kooky characters on TV, even appearing in one episode of "The Andy Griffith Show" playing Charlene Darling's husband wanting to fight Andy over her.
