I wanted to cut the tongue and add an extension for a platform for a 4 wheeler, but I was overruled on that one.

I think this is the way to go.
How big are your 4 wheelers?
If you are a good welder, and your 4 wheelers aren't huge, you could probably put together a rig to load both your 4 wheelers sideways on your pickup.

Honda Rancher 400 (I think) and mine is a Yamaha Grizzly 350. I've tried to figure out a configuration I could haul both of them in the bed of a truck but without a sizeable platform over the bed of the truck, there's not really a way to haul both 4 wheelers in a standard 6'4" bed sideways, straight forward, or standing up. They're not narrow enough to fit in any configuration in the bed unless the tailgate is down, and the camper jack will hit the tailgate with it down. We would consider cutting the jack off the trailer and getting a flip up jack but we're sorta running out of time. I think we're just going to go with what we have for this trip and if we want to do this more often we'll figure out a different option. I like cutting the tongue and adding a platform option best myself.
