Based on the argument the DOJ was making, yes. And that’s exactly what the SCOTUS wants to avoid, from what I heard today.

That's my point...sonit begs the question of why the red states don't act on it. We never fight like the Dems do. Just file charges and let the SCOTUS see what their decision could look like

Means the Special Counsel didn't say anything (nor did a Justice ask a question) they felt warranted any additional argument. Sends a message.

Trump’s team must have also been pretty happy with the challenges SCOTUS leveled at the prosecution. They we’re winning and didn’t need a rebuttal.

His investigatory arm is the DOJ.

quote:

Justice Alito just blew up the entire argument by the DOJ.

Alito: "If the president gets advice from the attorney general, that something is lawful, is that an absolute defense?"

Dreeben: “yes”

Alito: “Wouldn’t the President just pick an AG who’ll let him do whatever he wants?”

Dreeben looked stunned

Apparently the AG can provide absolute immunity, but the President who is his boss can’t.

Night Night!!

This! Absolutely THIS! I believe the folks that oppose this truth, didn’t actually watch the live results! They just read the MSM and follow that narrative!

MSNBC and CNN are losing their minds. That is how I know this is good.

In every other iteration of this nation across the multiverse, the people could trust when those responsible for ensuring election integrity say that it's the most secure election in our nation's history that it is actually true.

Sadly, that is not the case in ours...

The issue at hand is without immunity there is nothing stopping local/state DAs in making political indictments to thwart a president or to punish a former president.

We have an avenue. That’s Congress

During the first debate, Trump calls Joe Biden's mother a whore.

Biden walks up to him and pulls out of his jacket an 18th century dueling pistol and shoots Trump in the face.

Immunity? He is the President. Senate passes on Impeachment trial.

(It is very clear that the President enjoys high level of immunity for official acts, and likely little to none for personal acts. It just becomes a question of what those acts are defined as)

Why is this such a difficult concept to understand? Or is it an impossible concept to acknowledge for some?

Unpopular opinion here but I've said this several times. IMO where Trump really fricks himself on this call is when he says . “I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have”. Not "let's recount the votes" or something similar, but referencing a specific number to proclaim him the winner. He can dance around it all he wants, but Trump is asking Raffensburger to sway the election his way
IMO of course, YMMV

Exactly.

I just re-read the transcript and to me it reads like a candidate who felt like he was wronged and asked them to investigate the election

He didn't ask him to investigate the election. He asked him to "find" the EXACT number of votes he needed to win the state.

Presidents clearly engage in public and private acts while in office. Some acts are easily defined as one or the other there are certain acts that are much more muddy.

That's absolutely correct. There is no doubt that presidents should have immunity for many of their public acts. Their private acts must meet legal muster. Hence, limited immunity. I don't understand why this is so difficult to understand.

Serious question...couldn't the AG in each conservative state put charges on Obama, Biden, and Clinton, and issue arrest warrants for the same type of charges against Trump?
That way those Dems wouldn't be able to enter and campaign, without being arrested?

Sure, but doesn't the fact that that hasn't happened make you wonder just a little bit? Presidents before Trump never needed to argue for complete immunity. Why? The understood they couldn't break the damned law without repercussions.

but I find it even harder to believe there is a son-of-a-bitch alive today who actually is dumb enough to believe that Trump did get on the phone and asked to 'find votes.'

Well, here it is from the AP.

“All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have,” Trump said. “Because we won the state.”
